Summary:

Reporting to the Director of Financial Aid, the Associate Financial Aid Counselor performs professional administrative duties with a working knowledge of federal financial aid regulations and internal office policies, procedures, and objectives.


 

Job Description:

  • Reviews and validates application data for undergraduate and graduate students in accordance with federal, state, and institutional regulations and operational procedures.

  • Communicates with students and parents to resolve documentation issues related to verification and other aid requirements.

  • Runs and interprets database queries to identify and resolve incomplete applications; and coordinates with University personnel as needed.

  • Assists in packaging financial aid awards according to federal, state, and institutional guidelines; and monitor student awards for over-awards and data conflicts.

  • Delivers individualized financial aid advice to students and parents, providing guidance on available opportunities, application procedures, and program eligibility requirements; and responds to inquiries in person and through interface.

  • Supports the development of educational materials and assists with presentations and workshops.

  • Delivers financial aid training during New Student Orientation and throughout the semester.

  • Collaborates with the Vocational Rehabilitation (VR) team and external VR counselors to ensure VR compliance.

  • Stay current with federal mandates and regulations; participate in ongoing training and professional development.

  • Establishes and maintains a positive and supportive working relationship with co-workers and supervisors.

  • Demonstrates a genuine commitment to belonging in the workplace and participates in activities and workshops to foster continuous learning.

  • Serves as a mandatory reporter under Title IX; and commits to completing Title IX training and other compliance requirements on an annual basis.

  • Prioritizes safety in the workplace as a collective responsibility for the well-being of employees and fosters a culture of safety that is integral to our success, including strict adherence to safety procedures and protocols, as well as promptly reporting any safety hazards or incidents.

  • Performs related and other duties as needed.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree.

  • A minimum of two years of experience with financial aid, student services, vocational rehabilitation, or a related field.

  • Ability to communicate in American Sign Language.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in a higher education setting.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Strong knowledge of federal regulations governing financial aid programs.

  • Demonstrated commitment to valuing diversity and contributing to an inclusive working and learning environment.

  • Demonstrated ability to work with and across University departments, outside constituents and groups.

Additional Job Details:

  • If the successful candidate has over three years of required professional experience and qualifications, they may be hired as “Financial Aid Counselor."
