The Program Coordinator, Cultural Engagement Center (CEC) is a member of the Student Affairs team and contributes to a campus environment where students explore culture, identity, community, and belonging with curiosity and respect. The Coordinator supports the goals of the Cultural Engagement Center and its connection to the College’s broader work in community, culture, and belonging. This includes advising cultural and religious student organizations, planning programs that promote cultural learning and connection, and helping cultivate welcoming spaces where all students feel supported, including international and first-generation students. The Program Coordinator plays a central role in program development, student advising, communications, assessment, and Center operations. The position helps strengthen community and belonging across the College and contributes to key institutional initiatives throughout the year.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES

Program Development & Implementation

  • Support the design and implementation of CEC programs, including dialogues, workshops, cultural learning events, reflective gatherings, and community-building activities.

  • Assist with the development and assessment of programs that strengthen students’ connection to community and expand their awareness of cultural and global experiences.

  • Ensure that programs reflect current institutional expectations and evolving federal guidance related to inclusion, equal opportunity, and access.

Student Advising & Support

  • Advise and support cultural, religious, and affinity-based student organizations, including guidance on leadership development, event planning, budgeting, policy adherence, and organizational growth.

  • Support Cultural and Interfaith Council through space reservations through EMS Web Client, budgetary needs, calendar invites, and reports on engagement metrics.

  • Provide direct support to students exploring cultural identity, campus transition, and community connection.

  • Offer outreach and guidance for international and first-generation students as they navigate cultural adjustment, community integration, and college expectations.

  • Assist in designing and delivering workshops and training for student leaders, including cultural organization officers, Resident Assistants, Orientation Leaders, and International Student Peer Mentors.

  • Assist with the development and implementation of assessment tools, collect and summarize data, and deliver recommendations for cultural programming to meet evolving student needs.

  • Serve as a resource for students navigating community concerns or cultural challenges and coordinate appropriate referrals to Student Affairs partners such as Student Care and Support, Community Standards, the Emerson Wellness Center, and the Office of Equal Opportunity.

Collaboration & Partnership

  • Partner with the Center for Spiritual Life on programs that encourage reflection, dialogue, and meaning-making across cultures and worldviews.

  • Collaborate with colleagues across Student Affairs to support institutional goals related to community support, cultural learning, and student engagement.

  • Build and sustain relationships with campus departments, including Academic Affairs, International Student Affairs, the Office of Equal Opportunity, and Enrollment Management, to enhance cultural and community-based programming.

  • Engage community organizations and Boston-area partners to expand student access to cultural learning opportunities beyond campus.

Center Administration & Communications

  • Assist with data collection, evaluation, and reporting to support program improvement, engagement metrics, space utilization, and identify emerging student needs.

  • Contribute to research peer institutions for comparative analysis and best practices.

  • Help maintain a welcoming and comfortable Center environment by being attentive to the overall atmosphere, ensuring shared spaces are set up for use, and addressing needs related to cleanliness, accessibility, and student comfort.

  • Help manage the CEC web presence, digital communications, and social media platforms to ensure information is accurate, accessible, and engaging.

  • Create and manage Emconnect, regular newsletters, event spotlights, Student Affairs Event & Communications Calendar, and storytelling content elevating student voices.

  • Coordinate promotional campaigns for cultural heritage months and signature CEC events.

  • Ensure all communications align with Emerson’s brand and accessibility guidelines.

  • Support daily Center operations, including room reservations through EMS Web Client, event logistics, equipment requests, and work orders.

  • Contribute to the hiring, training, scheduling, and supervision of student employees.

  • Provide administrative support such as tracking expenditures, reconciling procurement card transactions, coordinating contracts, and managing supplies, logistics, or travel.

Divisional & Institutional Responsibilities

  • All Student Affairs staff are expected to actively participate in and support major divisional and institutional programs and events, including, but not limited to, student and staff training, Move-in and Move-out, Orientation, Family & Friends Weekend, Picture Yourself at Emerson, Commencement, the Student Organization Fair, and other key community-building initiatives.

Policy, Compliance & Risk Management

  • Ensure student organizations comply with college policies, event guidelines, and risk management protocols.

  • Review event proposals for accessibility, safety, and cultural relevance.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS – Qualifications are deemed required or preferred and represent what is needed to effectively perform job.

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required; Master’s degree in Higher Education, Student Affairs, Social Work, or a related field, preferred

  • Two to four years of experience working directly with college students across a range of social identities and backgrounds required.

  • Experience developing, coordinating, or facilitating student programs related to cultural engagement, leadership development, or community building required.

  • Experience managing communications, assessment processes, or student-facing digital content, preferred.

  • Creativity, flexibility, and a collaborative approach to problem-solving.

  • Familiarity with design or communication tools (e.g., Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, Mailchimp) preferred.

Compensation: $52,000.00 - $62,450.00 annually, commensurate with experience.
