Virtual Chief Information Officer (vCIO)

What Does a vCIO Actually Do?

Most companies don't have a dedicated Chief Information Officer, and that's exactly where you come in.

As a vCIO at ActiveCo, a New Charter Technologies Company, you become the strategic technology partner for a portfolio of clients who rely on you to help them think bigger, plan smarter, and use technology as a competitive advantage. You're not just managing accounts; you're embedded in your clients' businesses, understanding their goals, anticipating their needs, and guiding them forward.

This is a role for someone who genuinely loves building relationships, thinks strategically, and gets energized by turning complex challenges into clear, actionable plans. If you find yourself most fulfilled when a client says "I don't know what I'd do without you," this might be exactly where you belong.

The Opportunity

ActiveCo, a New Charter Technologies Company, is looking for a full-time vCIO based in Port Coquitlam, BC. You'll work closely with internal teams, leadership, and clients daily, with local travel to client sites expected as a regular part of the role. The position offers a base salary of CAD $80,000 to $100,000 depending on experience and qualifications.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Serving as the primary point of contact and trusted advisor for a portfolio of managed client accounts
  • Conducting regular onsite and offsite client meetings to assess needs, communicate roadmaps, and align technology with business goals
  • Identifying and developing new opportunities within your existing client base to support their growth (minimal outside sales required)
  • Overseeing and managing Professional Services projects from scoping through delivery
  • Handling service escalations with professionalism and urgency
  • Maintaining accurate client playbooks, forecasts, and account plans
  • Onboarding new clients and ensuring a smooth, confident transition into our ecosystem
  • Communicating consistently with internal teams on current and upcoming client initiatives

What Success Looks Like

  • Managing a healthy portfolio of client accounts with strong revenue retention
  • Maintaining gross margin targets across your client base
  • Contributing consistently to the team's net revenue growth goals
  • Keeping voluntary client attrition low and satisfaction high
  • Completing quarterly priorities and personal learning objectives on time

Who Succeeds in This Role

  • Experience in IT services, managed services, or technology consulting
  • An MBA or equivalent experience, with a genuine passion for leveraging business strategy to drive technology outcomes for clients
  • A natural relationship-builder who earns trust quickly and maintains it long-term
  • Able to translate complex technical concepts into clear, business-focused conversations
  • Organized, proactive, and comfortable managing multiple priorities simultaneously
  • Holds themselves to a high standard and takes pride in delivering great outcomes

Competencies We're Looking For

  • Customer-focused with exceptional interpersonal skills
  • Strong organizational, time management, and planning abilities
  • Resourceful problem-solver who takes initiative
  • Honest, professional, and accountable
  • Comfortable working under pressure with competing deadlines
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite

Training & Support

You will receive:

  • Structured onboarding and client introductions
  • Ongoing coaching and direct access to leadership
  • Clear performance expectations and regular feedback
  • Tools and resources to maintain and grow your client portfolio

We invest in people who show up, follow through, and want to grow.
