Position Summary

The Yellowjacket Mascot is responsible for scheduling and positively representing UW-Superior as Buzz at various athletic events, campus functions, and community gatherings.
 

Responsibilities

  • Attend campus and community events as Buzz.

  • Positively represent the university and maintain Buzz’s image.

  • Promote UW-Superior school spirit and boost crowd morale.

  • Be energetic and enthusiastic at all times while in costume.

  • Use large gestures and movements without speaking when interacting with the public.

  • Take excellent care of the costume and follow all cleaning instructions.

  • Adhere to the Mascot Guidelines & Code of Conduct.

  • Schedule mascot appearances for campus and community events.

  • Check and respond to event requests promptly.

  • Keep accurate records of all appearances.

  • Collaborate with campus departments and student organizations to promote school spirit initiatives or events.

  • Brainstorm and implement new ways to increase school spirit and Buzz’s presence. 

  • Represent the department at campus events such as Preview Days, SOAR, and WoW.

  • Support and collaborate with other Student Involvement staff on projects and programs.

  • Perform other duties as needed.
     

Time Commitment & Training

  • Up to 5-10 hours per week, including scheduled office hours and event hours.

  • Availability may be required year-round, including breaks and summer.

  • Position may be held until the individual graduates or is unable to perform duties.

Required Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled part- or full-time UW-Superior student.

  • In good academic standing with a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher.

  • Must be able to work athletic events on nights and weekends.

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

  • Enthusiasm, a positive attitude, and a willingness to learn.

  • Proof of Health Insurance and a signed Release & Assumption of Risk are required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior mascot experience.

  • Valid driver’s license and ability to drive to off-campus events.

  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
