Job Summary:

The major responsibilities and expectations of the Student Custodian are listed below. It is important to note that other responsibilities may be assigned when appropriate. As an employee of the University of Wisconsin-Superior and the Residence Life Department, the Student Custodian agrees to fulfill the responsibilities of the position and to the terms of this contract.

I. Standard of Work-

The Residence Life Department has the highest standards in terms of quality of work and the efficiency with which it is done. Assigned tasks are to be completed in a professional and timely manner to the satisfaction of the Supervisor, Residence Hall Managers, Director of Residence Life, or other members of the Residence Life Administrative staff.

II. RESPONSIBILITIES

The responsibilities of the Student Custodian entail a variety of different work. They are including but not limited to:

o Vacuuming

o Mopping

o Sweeping

o Shoveling snow

o Wiping down surfaces

o Taking out garbage

o Cleaning public areas (ie. kitchen, lounges, laundry rooms)

o All other duties as assigned by supervisor

The Student Custodian works to in collaboration with the building custodial supervisor and team to create a welcoming, safe, and tidy environment for all customers.

III. Conduct and Attire-

Employees of the University of Wisconsin-Superior Residence Life will act in a responsible and professional manner on campus at all times whether working or not. Poor customer service habits and/or work ethic will not be tolerated. For the purposes of maintaining safety and professionalism, there are certain expectations that have been established:

1. All employees are required to wear shoes with covered toes at all times

2. All employees will refrain from using phones during work hours unless it is for contacting Custodial Supervisor or for work purposes

IV. Time Off and Tardiness

1. All time off needs to be approved through the building custodial supervisor in advance.

2. If an employee does not show up for work without calling for two days in a row, or a total of three days total, their contract may be terminated.

3. There will be a four-week probationary period that begins the week following staff training and orientation. If an employee does not meet the required standards of work during these four weeks, their contract may be terminated.

IX. Remuneration

Employees will work in another residence hall other than the residence hall in which they reside. Pay is $12/hr with about 10 hours/week of work. Weekend work will be required. Schedules will be determined with the Building Custodial Supervisor, Building Hall Manager or Assistant Hall Manager, and the Director of Residence Life.

According to the Attorney General, ‘final candidates’ under Wisconsin law means the five candidates who are considered most qualified for the position. See Wis. Stat. Sec. 19.36(7)(a).
