Job Responsibilities
Ensures safe and efficient operation of the plant and its associated equipment
Makes regular inspections of plant equipment and prepares equipment malfunction reports
Cleans and maintains work areas and equipment
Starts, stops, and adjusts equipment settings to maintain operational requirements
Maintains forms, logs, or reports - Analyzes data and communicates recommendations on equipment and systems operations, both verbally and in written reports
Adheres to safety protocols and procedures
Complies with environmental protection protocols and procedures
May work without direct supervision on shift operations
Assists with preventative and corrective maintenance as needed
Assists in the training and oversight of new employees in these and other safe and efficient plant operational procedures
Heating Plant
Hourly Rate $26 per hour
Must have a basic mechanical knowledge/aptitude.
Must be able to work independently and with general supervision.
Ability to communicate effectively, both written and verbally.
Analytic skills to diagnose and correct the cause of failures with equipment.
Ability to read and interpret gauges and sight glasses.
Ability to climb stairs and ladders.
Ability to organize work tasks logically and efficiently.
Ability to read and understand written procedures and manuals
Ability to recognize safety concerns and adhere to a safety program.
Must have the ability to diagram plant systems (water, steam. gas, fuel oil, and air lines)
Ability to perform basic plant maintenance tasks using power and hand tools.
Ability to climb stairs and ladders.
Ability to enter manholes in tanks and boilers and work in confined spaces, on occasion.
Ability to be able to lift to 50 pounds.
Ability to kneel, squat, bend, climb and stretch to read gauges.
Ability to pass a pulmonary test and respirator test and be willing to wear respirator or air hood as needed.
Ability to pass the post-offer employment test.
Ability to work days, nights, afternoons, weekends, and holidays.
Ability to work 8-hour shifts, alone, in large industrial steam plant setting.
Knowledge of the function and operation of high-pressure boilers and supporting equipment preferred.
Previous experience with firing natural gas and fuel oil boilers preferred.

The selected candidate must be able to pass a post-offer employment test and hold a valid driver’s license to obtain Wisconsin certification to drive University vehicles.
