Job Description 

The University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee is seeking a skilled PeopleSoft Application Developer to lead the application development, technical management, and ongoing support of UWM’s PeopleSoft Campus Solutions (PAWS)—the university’s core Student Information System. This role involves designing and implementing system enhancements, developing and maintaining interface programs, and collaborating closely with functional users to analyze requirements and deliver effective solutions. 

 

Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: 

  • Conducts system analysis, reviews, and interprets system requirements, and develops detailed system design specifications for system integration and upgrades 
  • Leads application development, integration upgrades, and maintenance projects 
  • Consults with clients on project status, proposals, or technical issues 
  • Designs and develops well-integrated applications that meet present and future business needs 
  • Determines testing methodologies and manages the development and implementation of comprehensive test plans 
  • Develops data structure and systems performance strategies 
  • Trains and provides technical guidance to lower-level staff 
  • Reviews systems requirements, design, and business processes to ensure the alignment with IT and business strategies 
  • Provides expertise on the resolution and technical approach of complex technical design and system integration problems 

 

Additional Information:

  • Hybrid work arrangements may be available. Primary work will be conducted on the UW-Milwaukee campus, with remote work requests considered after the initial training period. Details will be discussed during the interview process. 

Key Job Responsibilities:

  • Provides expertise on the resolution and technical approach of complex technical design and system integration problems
  • Leads application development, integration upgrades, and maintenance projects

  • May supervise unit staff and resolve routine personnel issues
  • Trains and provides technical guidance to lower level staff
  • Conducts system analysis, reviews, and interprets system requirements, and develops detailed system design specifications for system integration and upgrades
  • Develops data structure and systems performance strategies
  • Determines testing methodologies and manages the development and implementation of comprehensive test plans
  • Designs and develops well integrated applications that meet present and future business needs
  • Consults with clients on project status, proposals, or technical issues

Minimum Qualifications 

 To be considered for this position, candidates must have: 

  • Professional experience in application programming or software development 
  • Experience installing, managing, or maintaining enterprise applications 
  • Experience using PeopleSoft development tools, including COBOL and/or SQR 
  • Experience analyzing, troubleshooting, or running queries and reports of varying complexity 
  • Experience developing, coordinating, or facilitating user training  

 

Preferred Qualifications 

 Highly qualified candidates may also have: 

  • Bachelor’s or advanced degree in Information Systems or a related field, or two or more years of professional experience in a medium-to-large IT organization  
  • Experience installing, managing, or maintaining enterprise applications in a complex environment 
  • Experience with PHP, Java, or other internet development environments 
  • Experience developing and coding in SQL 
  • Experience developing and coding in COBOL and/or SQR 
  • Experience managing projects through completion 
  • Experience working in a higher education environment   

 

Target Salary Range 

$80,000 to $88,000
