Reporting to the Dean, this position serves as the Chief budget and Fiscal manager for the College, overseeing day-to-day financial activities, annual budget development, and long-range financial planning. The Divisional Finance Officer plays a key leadership role in ensuring the excellence, effectiveness, and efficiency of CEAS business operations.
This position works closely with university administration, business officers, personnel managers, division leadership and staff, and the UWM Foundation. The role also includes supervisory responsibility for four staff members and participation as a member of the College’s integrated leadership team.
Develops the division's financial strategy including planning, forecasts, budgets, and cash management that focus on attaining and sustaining long-term financial equilibrium in collaboration with university leadership
Works with senior administrative and academic leadership to design, establish, and maintain an administrative organizational structure to effectively and efficiently accomplish goals and objectives while appropriately defining duties and mitigating risk
Serves as a major point of contact and catalyst for problem resolution. Provides insightful and diplomatic communications
Serves as the primary business advisor, liaison, and partner to divisional leadership and key stakeholder groups
Exercises supervisory authority, including hiring, transferring, suspending, promoting, managing conduct and performance, discharging, assigning, rewarding, disciplining, and/or approving hours worked of at least 4.0 full-time equivalent (FTE) employees
Partners with key financial management offices in Business & Financial Services and the Office of Research
Assesses processes, staffing, and systems to identify opportunities for improvement and streamlining on a regular basis
Directs and coordinates all accounting and budgetary functions of the Division, including purchasing, employee payroll, travel reimbursements, deposits, program revenue accounting, and state appropriations budget and accounting, and grants management.JR10005433
Serves as member of the Division’s Leadership Team, working collaboratively to establish and support the overall vision and strategic direction of the division
Bachelor’s degree
At least three years of professional experience performing directly related work within a similar function
Demonstrated knowledge of financial principles and accounting standards through progressively responsible roles in finance or a related field
Experience with financial analysis and reporting
Bachelor’s or advanced degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or a related field
Master’s degree related advanced degree, or relevant professional certification (e.g., CPA)
Directly related experience working in finance within a public university or similar setting
Supervisory or leadership experience
Proven ability to collaborate and advance initiatives across all levels of an organization
Proficiency in financial analysis and reporting tools, including PC-based spreadsheet applications and financial systems
Experience with enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems, including Workday
Experience with grants management
Additional information
Hybrid work arrangements may be available. Primary work will be conducted on the UW-Milwaukee campus, with remote work requests considered after the initial training period. Details will be discussed during the interview process.
