Under the direction and working in concert with the Environmental Services Supervisor, and custodian lead, the custodian cleans facilities, removes waste and recycling, and monitors building security and safety by performing such tasks as unlocking/locking entrance doors. Takes initiative and direct action to ensure cleanliness, orderliness, and safety in assigned areas.
1st Shift (full time) - 6:00 AM – 2:30 PM, Monday – Friday
2nd Shift (full time) - 2:00 PM – 10:30 PM Monday – Friday
3rd Shift (full time) - 10:00 PM – 6:30 AM Monday - Friday
This position is not eligible for hybrid work and requires 100% onsite work.
General knowledge of cleaning
Ability to move furniture
Previous cleaning experience in a college or university setting.
Documented experience using scrubbing machines
Documented experiencing using buffing machines
Documented experience using carpet cleaning machines
Possess a valid Wisconsin Driver’s license (or other such valid operator’s permit recognized by the Wisconsin Department of Transportation) and be able to meet or exceed the minimum requirements for driving on state business as detailed here: https://uwm.edu/risk-management/drivers/
Availability to be on-call (generally scheduled in advance).
High school diploma or equivalent

Candidates who have been interviewed for a Custodian vacancy in the Facilities Planning and Management Department within the previous six months, will not go through a new interview process. Their previous interview results will be reused for new vacancies for which they are being considered. In the event a candidate is named a finalist for the position, they will be notified that their previous interview results are being reviewed and the eventual outcome of the selection process.
Finalist candidate(s) being considered for hire will be required to provide three professional/supervisor references through an external reference checking tool. References will not be contacted prior to candidates being notified.
This position does not offer visa sponsorship. Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States at the time of hire. Selected candidates will be required to verify eligibility to work in the United States by completing the required I-9 form upon hire.
Finance & Administrative Affairs is required to conduct Post-Offer Pre-Employment screenings on the selected candidate for this role. Employment is contingent upon successfully passing the screening.
