JOB SUMMARY

The Mitigation Intern will work in collaboration with the Office of Sustainability Research Coordinator on issues related to the University’s carbon mitigation efforts as identified in the campus drafts for the Climate actions and Resilience plan appendix documents. Projects will vary based on needs for the research coordinator and include things like data collection and clarity, electrical transitions needs & plans & opportunities, and sustainable transportation related education and improvement

 

ACCOUNTABILITY

The mitigation interns will report to the UW-Stevens Point Sustainability Director and will partner with the research coordinator on work projects and related goals. The is expected to complete other duties as assigned by the Sustainability Director

 

SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITY

The scope of the position is UW-Stevens Point Campus including branch campuses and field stations.  It serves residents, students, faculty, staff, and campus guests.  Primary interaction is with the OoS team and university staff.  The skill, ability and knowledge of the incumbent will have a direct impact on the success of projects within the area of responsibility. 

 

SPECIFIC DUTIES

 

  • Develop Projects and targets that can be completed within the scope of this internship

  • Identify future projects to support CARP implementation with a particular focus on GHG mitigation projects

  • Support efforts to prepare for next years’ BFU renewal application process

 

QUALIFICATIONS

In addition to the general qualifications for all UW-Stevens Point student employees, students must maintain good academic standing and enrollment of at least 12 (or more) undergraduate credits with UWSP  and be in good academic standing with the University (cumulative and semester GPAs of 2.5 or better), the mitigation intern must:

  • be competent in Word and/or graphics software,

  • possess organizational and time-management skills,

  • possess oral and written communication skills,

  • be creative,

  • have general knowledge of promotional tactics and public relations,

  • have a general knowledge of office procedures,

  • have a good understanding of sustainability principles, and

  • be able to work independently on assigned tasks.

 

If you are a work study student, this position must be your primary work study position.  If you are interested in working an additional work study job during your employment as the Senior Staff Lead and Sustainable Events Coordinator, you must first receive permission from your supervisor.

 

This position requires 10 hours per week for 6 weeks at the start of the summer season from May 18th – June 30th. Employee is placed on a probationary period for the first two (2) weeks of employment. 

 

BASE WAGE: $16.00
