Principal Duties and Responsibilities

• Design and oversee new electrical and automation installations.

• Verify proper installation of automation equipment and troubleshoot electrical systems.

• Supervise installation and maintenance of ESPs and artificial lift systems.

• Manage pumping unit electrical equipment, including motor sheave changes and replacements.

• Bid out services and supplies; manage vendor relationships and procurement.

• Maintain inventory of electrical and automation supplies and equipment.

• Coordinate with electric utilities to install and maintain power services.

• Track and manage project costs; provide regular status reports to stakeholders.

• Identify and implement optimization opportunities for electrical and automation systems.

• Teach and enforce safe work practices and company safety policies.

• Train pumpers, technicians, and electricians in electrical safety and automation techniques.

• Provide feedback to management on training and development needs.

• Ensure regulatory compliance in coordination with EH&S and production teams.

• Lead, manage, and mentor Vital Energy electricians and automation technicians.

• Collaborate with field foremen to schedule and execute installations.

• Test and evaluate new methods for optimizing production.

 Knowledge and Skills

• High school diploma or equivalent required; bachelor’s degree in engineering or technical field preferred.

• Minimum 10 years of oilfield experience, including 5 years in a supervisory role.

• Detailed knowledge of electrical systems, automation technologies, and production operations.

• Expertise in artificial lift methods and regulatory compliance.

• Strong project management and multitasking skills.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).

• Effective written and verbal communication skills.

• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively across teams.

• Must meet eligibility requirements to drive a company vehicle.

Working Conditions

• Outdoor work with exposure to extreme temperatures, fumes, gases, and loud noise.

• Frequent interaction with construction and production equipment, pressurized systems, and hazardous materials.

• May work in areas with H₂S presence and must be available for on-call duty.

• Work performed under all weather conditions and in remote field locations.

Physical Demands

  • Frequent standing, walking, and manual handling of equipment weighing 50–75 pounds.
  • Occasional sitting and driving over rough terrain for extended periods.
  • Requires finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination for computer and equipment operation.
