The role, at a glance:
The Buyer II gathers quotations, analyzes bids, and makes awards in support of production sourcing to maintain production schedules as well as maintain inventories at target levels.  In addition, this position will at times collaborate with Engineering to identify optimal sourcing strategies and execute purchases in support of New Product Development needs.  The Buyer II must be able to quote with multiple suppliers, determine optimal sourcing strategies, manage supplier relationships, and issue purchase orders for required production and facilitate on time delivery of all parts requirements.

How you'll contribute:

  • Issue requests for quotes/proposals (RFQ/RFP) and select best source consistent with cost, quality and delivery requirements. Negotiate and manage long term pricing agreements on critical commodities

  • Identifies actual and potential delivery issues; expedites/pushes-out orders as necessary to meet production and inventory targets, and ensuring there are no production shortages

  • Actively participate on new product development teams to review product concepts for cost, supplier implementation schedule and suitability to the current supply base.  As part of this, in partnering with the development team ensuring that material sourcing is secured for all NPI builds, taking into account material and design risks, lead-times and costs

  • Maintain appropriate inventory levels consistent with targeted inventory goals and as set by management. Participate with management in the setting of inventory strategies, based on needs and supplier capabilities

  • Manage third-party supplier relationships, serving as the point person for day-to-day supplier interactions and activities

  • At times, participate in, or lead, new supplier selections including supplier qualification visits

  • At times, participate in, or lead, supplier contract negotiations

  • At times, participate in, or lead, establishing commodity strategies

  • Maintain accuracy of ERP information within Microsoft Dynamics AX, including lead-time, pricing, current supplier information, current purchase order data, etc

  • Ensure Microsoft Dynamics AX parameters are maintained by monitoring minimum, order multiples, and current inventory levels; making recommendations to management for adjustments to levels

  • Monitor supplier performance by ensuring that product is delivered as scheduled and meets specifications; maintaining appropriate files and records of meetings with suppliers to ensure company requirements are met and that supplier is aware of their performance

You'll also support by:

  • Acting as a liaison between suppliers and involved departments to resolve procurement-related problems

  • Working with the Accounts Payable on supplier invoice issues or discrepancies.

  • Contributing to team effort by accomplishing other job-related tasks as needed; enabling other workers to achieve their job objectives

  • Process non-conforming material requests and RMA requests with suppliers, addressing any resulting supplier corrective actions

  • At times, coach and mentor others on best practices

A successful candidate should have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Management or related field desired

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in procurement

  • Experience working with OEM/ODM suppliers

  • APICS CPIM certification desired

  • Knowledge of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) System and Material Resource Planning (MRP) functions experience with Microsoft Dynamics AX highly preferred

  • Ability to travel domestic and international to conduct new supplier qualifications and maintain supplier relationships.

  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing principals

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications

  • Proficient written and communication skills

  • Multitasker yet analytical and detail oriented
