The Associate Director of Institutional Research and External Reporting will play a critical role in providing data-driven insights to inform strategic decision-making at the institution. This position will oversee data analysis, reporting, and external reporting compliance. The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical skills, a deep understanding of higher education data, and excellent communication skills.
Essential Functions:
Data Analysis and Reporting:
- Oversee the collection, cleaning, and analysis of institutional data from various sources.
- Conduct in-depth analyses to identify trends, patterns, and areas for improvement.
- Prepare clear and concise reports on research findings, including data visualizations and executive summaries.
- Works directly with Data Governance and Reporting & Architecture teams to build and maintain the data and decision support operations of the University. Provide data-driven insights to inform strategic planning, enrollment management, academic program review, and resource allocation decisions.
- Manage the day-to-day work of data analysts as assigned.
External Reporting:
- Manage the preparation and submission of required reports to accrediting agencies, government agencies, and other external stakeholders. Maintains records and documentation of all external reports.
- Serves as the primary point of contact with external agencies for matters of reporting (e.g., IPEDS, U.S. News & World Report, etc.) Stays informed of regulatory changes and ensure compliance with reporting requirements.
- Collaborates with a cross-divisional team supporting institutional data operations, governance, and reporting. Collaborates with other departments to gather and analyze data for external reporting.
Minimum Qualifications:
Master's degree in a quantitatively oriented field, such as educational research, statistics, quantitative sociology or a related field.
At least four years relevant experience in institutional research in higher ed, with specific experience in external reporting.
- Expertise in statistical analysis software (e.g., SPSS, SAS, R) and data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power Bl).
- Strong knowledge of database management systems and query languages. Ability to extract, clean, and analyze large datasets from various sources.
- Knowledge of higher education trends and issues.
- Familiarity with federal and state reporting requirements, such as IPEDS, CDS, and other relevant surveys.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, with the ability to communicate complex data and findings to a diverse audience.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Experience in managing complex projects and meeting tight deadlines
Preferred Qualifications:
Master's or PhD in higher education, educational research, or a related quantitatively oriented education field.
Significant experience in higher ed institutional research and external reporting, with experience in cross-divisional coordination.
- Experience working with Tableau, Tableau Prep, Workday, Ellucian Banner, and Snowflake.
