Duties/Responsibilities

  • Manage and supervise QA Lab Technicians on shift, including hiring, training, scheduling, and performance management.

  • Ensure all laboratory personnel are properly trained on procedures, equipment, and safety protocols.

  • Support investigations of quality issues in production and customer complaints, documenting findings and recommending corrective actions.

  • Oversee preparation of Certificates of Analysis (COAs) for customers and internal use.

  • Ensure non-conforming products are identified, documented, and addressed in accordance with company policy.

  • Coordinate quality communication triggers to meet operational and business needs.

  • Support research and development activities to facilitate product innovation and business growth.

  • Develop special test protocols or methods as needed to meet production or technical requirements.

  • Review and manage product specifications, test protocols, and testing frequencies to ensure compliance with internal and external requirements.

  • Maintain lab equipment, supplies, and work areas to ensure readiness and compliance with quality standards. 

Required Skills/Abilities

  • Strong leadership and people management skills.

  • Excellent planning, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.

  • Critical investigative thinking and attention to detail.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, etc.) and ability to work with laboratory information systems.

  • Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams and communicate effectively at all levels.

  • Strong understanding of laboratory safety practices and quality control standards.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Directly supervises QA Lab Technicians on assigned shifts.

  • Responsible for training, scheduling, and evaluating lab staff performance.

Education and Experience

  • College experience preferred; degree in a technical or scientific field is a plus.

  • 5–10 years of experience in a technical laboratory role, preferably in flexible packaging.

  • Prior supervisory experience in a lab environment strongly preferred.

Physical Requirements

  • Prolonged periods of standing and walking within laboratory and production areas.

  • Ability to bend, stoop, and lift up to 25 pounds as needed.

  • Visual acuity to read test results, documentation, and computer screens.

  • May require occasional work in production areas with exposure to varying temperatures, noise, and odors.

  • Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety glasses, lab coat, and gloves, for extended periods.
