WHAT DOES THIS JOB LOOK LIKE?
As the Senior Design Engineer, you’ve got a stout track record of bringing innovative products to market in the bike industry focused around optimising performance for the rider. You will enable the company product strategy through impactful NPIs. You’ll be a leader within the product development team, setting the standard for NPI execution.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Develop new, best-in-class components and accessories from initial concept through to launch
Drive innovation and optimize product performance for competitive advantage
Stay on top of ever-changing bike industry trends and contribute to the direction of product category strategy through design goals
Best in class. ensure our products keep up with the ever-increasing demands of the cycling industry.
Review and sign off on fellow engineers’ and designers' work.
Ensure cost, timeline and quality targets are met through relentless execution
Build strong working relationships with overseas vendors to maximize development project efficiencies and trust in execution, work with vendors on manufacturing validation and tooling design.
Continue to drive the next level of possibility by growing our internal processes and capabilities.
Design and develop the next generation of testing equipment as it relates to products
Optimize material selection in products by performing FEA analysis and correlating results
Execute on the project Stage Gate process for the safe evolution of designs, passing safety and performance testing, to meet ride testing hour targets
Perform engineering calculations as needed.
Perform assembly tolerance stack-up studies as needed.
Perform cost down analysis to optimize BOM cost in the right areas
Maintain product quality through the use of rigorous Engineering practices
Interpret lifecycle test results and make adjustments to part design or manufacturing process
Complete project work accurately with a minimum of foreseeable design or engineering-related issues
Create engineering drawings, release drawings to vendors for review, and revise drawings based on vendor feedback
Evaluate sample parts for quality and performance and communicate any necessary changes to the vendor
Travel up to four weeks per year
WHAT YOU BRING TO THE TABLE:
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Master’s preferred
7-10+ years of experience in the field of mechanical engineering, focusing on bringing new products to market
Excellent 3D CAD modeling skills; OnShape or Solidworks preferred
Extensive experience in product design, manufacturing and the bike industry
Extensive experience in design and approving high-volume products, preferably in the bike industry
In-depth knowledge of engineering processes and principles
Strong understanding of materials science in metals and alloys, carbon fiber, plastics, etc.
Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
Strong RCA and investigation skills, ability to deduce concise conclusions and enact effective solutions.
Excellent communication skills and proven track record of translating complex topics to technical and non-technical audiences
Understand that customer safety and quality are paramount
Certifications in Lean Six Sigma are a plus
COMPENSATION & WORK TIME REQUIRED
The position is for 9 full-time days out of every 10; every second week, you will have an extra day off. The position assumes a Monday-Friday schedule with every second Friday off.
8 hours/day with a 30-minute paid lunch break. (36h / week average), flexible hours within reason and approval. You will accrue 15 paid vacation days per year.
The benchmark compensation for this role will be in the range of up to $114,000 - 122,000 CAD per year, paid semi-monthly (dependent on experience, qualifications, industry experience and the interview).
In addition there is an annual performance-based Short Term Incentive Plan (STIP) & access to our fully funded comprehensive group benefits/insurance.
