Job Summary:

Provides leadership and direction for areas of responsibility to ensure the delivery of high quality, cost effective, and safe care for all customers served. Works collaboratively with senior leadership for strategic planning and goal attainment.

Job Responsibilities/Duties:

  • Responsible for the planning, organizing, implementation, and integration of nursing services.

  • Provides leadership and support for nursing care in service lines directly reporting as well as those reporting to other leaders within clinic operations.

  • Exercises final authority over staff who provide nursing care, treatment, and services.

  • Monitors quality and service metrics; and sponsors process improvement related to nursing practices within clinic operations.

  • Works with nursing and medical staff to develop policies, procedures, and practice standards.

  • Approves and implements nursing policies, procedures, and standards that describe and guide nursing professional practice.

  • Keeps up to date with current and evolving federal, state, and local laws and regulations that are relevant to clinical practice and ensures compliance with these regulations.

  • Develops strategic priorities for nursing and updates the organization’s nursing strategic framework to align with system strategy.

  • Assists in developing initiatives to support the strategic priorities for nursing and updating the nursing strategic framework.

  • Advocates for the use of the shared governance model to champion quality, serve individuals with excellence, and ensuring OH is a great place to work.

  • Communicates and supports Nursing Professional Practice as a leading contributor to the overall success of the organization.

  • Supports shared governance to engage all nurses in decision-making and problem-solving.

  • Develops department goals and objectives consistent with medical, administrative, legal, and ethical requirements of the health care delivery system.

  • Directs and/or assists in prompt resolution of issues and complaints.

  • Identifies and resolves issues affecting the delivery of patient care services in assigned areas of responsibility.

  • Develops and implements policies and procedures to ensure efficient and effective delivery of health services.

  • Monitors and adheres to annual hospital operating budget. Approves and/or monitors expenditures, purchases, and other actions to ensure compliance with budget guidelines.

  • Ensures a high level of patient care is maintained in assigned areas of responsibility through coordination and management of personnel and resources.

  • Uses sound business and clinical management strategies to maintain and improve quality; ensures appropriate access; meets established financial goals; develops, implements, and communicates a service line plan, which is aligned with and supports corporate goals.

  • Performs job duties in accordance with the Nurse Practice Act.

  • Aligns nursing leadership decisions with OH strategic imperatives.

  • Implements the vision and strategic plan for patient care.

  • Communication – Clearly communicates goals, expectations, and updates the team using active listening and promoting open communication channels.

  • Conflict Resolution - Identifies and addresses conflicts within the team, facilitating constructive dialogue, and finding solutions to disagreements. 

  • Change Management – Involved in implementing organizational change initiatives.  Able to effectively manage resistance, communicating change effectively, and foster a culture of adaptability within their teams.

Position Requirements:

Work Experience

  • A minimum of 5 years' relevant experience as determined by the organization

Education

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Nursing required upon hire AND

  • Master's degree or higher in Nursing required within 3 years of employment in this position

Licensure/Certification/Registration

  • RN - Licensed as a Registered Nurse. Eligible to practice nursing in the State of Kentucky required upon hire AND

  • BLS - Certified as a Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider required within 45 days of employment in this position
