Position Summary:
The Research Technician supports ongoing biomedical research in the Department of Biomedical Science. This position will contribute to projects focused on retinal biology and molecular mechanisms of disease, with a strong emphasis on hands-on laboratory techniques and data analysis.
This position is ideal for someone with a background in chemistry, nanotechnology, or molecular biology, and who has experience in both in-vitro and in-vivo research environments. The technician will assist in a variety of laboratory tasks including cell culture, ELISA, retinal dissection, and sample processing, while maintaining accurate records and supporting lab operations.
Essential Functions (Duties and Responsibilities)
Liaise with Principal Investigator and junior researchers to conduct molecular biology experiments 80%
Publish research findings (contribute to writing, and submitting manuscripts for publication) 5%
Maintain accurate records of experiments and data in lab notebooks and electronic databases 5%
Assist with training new students and junior researchers in laboratory techniques 5%
Maintain lab inventory and order reagents, chemicals, and consumables as needed 5%
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
• Background in molecular and cell biology techniques, including PCR, genotyping, immunohistochemistry, and retinal microdissection.
• Familiarity with retinal dissection, animal handling, and sample tracking systems
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and scientific software (e.g., ImageJ, GraphPad)
Education and Experience:
• Required: Bachelor’s degree in molecular biology, Biochemistry, Chemistry, or a related field.
• Preferred: At least 0.5–1 years of laboratory experience in an academic or research setting.
• Prior experience in in-vitro and/or in-vivo, genotyping, and immunohistochemistry is a plus.
