NOTE:

THIS IS A TEMPORARY PART-TIME POSITION. DELIVERS MEALS TO CLIENTS WHO ARE HOMEBOUND IN THE BANQUETE AREA.

SUMMARY:  

Aids in packaging meals and delivers home-bound meals to the elderly participants in the rural Robstown area on a weekday basis.  

Transports senior citizens to medical appointments, shopping trips, recreational activities and other destinations at least once each week.

Performs custodial duties.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Drives a 15 and/or 12 passenger van, providing transportation to senior citizens and delivering supplies to other centers and meals to homebound seniors.

Provides supervision and assistance to passengers while boarding and unboarding and while In route to and from appointments.

Coordinates daily van route with supervisor to best utilize time and fuel.

Performs daily routine maintenance checks, completes appropriate forms and reports maintenance needs to supervisor.

Maintains appropriate transportation and meal delivery records and completes required transportation reports.

Makes safety decisions in regard to transporting passengers.

Performs other needed support tasks at community center(s) as schedule permits such as getting supplies from warehouse, picking up supplies from vendors and the food bank, picking up mail, etc.

Performs routine maintenance on the vans and submits reports on fuel consumption.

Reports all transportation-related problems to supervisor.

Assists passengers on outings when required and as schedule permits.

Prepares monthly reports of meal deliveries.

 
OTHER DUTIES:  

Will perform daily cleaning up of center and meal packaging, as well as, performing other assigned duties.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Any employee who drives a vehicle on official business must have a driving record which meets standards set by the County and the County’s insurance carrier.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:  

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or sufficient education to read, write.
  • Must have a good driving record for the past three (3) years.
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.

Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:  

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent.

REASONING ABILITY:  

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.

Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

  • Valid Texas Driver's License (Class C).  
  • Certificate for completion of Defensive Driving Course within last two (2) years.
  • Corpus Christi-Nueces County Health Card.  
  • CPR Training is preferred.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge of local roads and geographic areas.

Ability to understand and deal effectively with elderly persons, including potentially hostile passengers.

Knowledge of basic vehicle maintenance techniques.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other county employees and senior citizens.

Ability to maintain simple records.        

Ability to write and perform basic math computations.

Proficiency in Spanish as well as English is highly desirable.    

Ability to perform CPR is preferred.

Employee reads, compiles and records numerical data for meal, gasoline and transportation report.
