The position will provide evidence-based psychotherapy counseling and wellness for individuals, couples, and group for currently enrolled students. Provide consultation for students, faculty, and staff to address immediate concerns that impact their well-being. This position requires availability for on-call emergency crisis after regular business hours, weekends, and holidays included.

Essential Functions (Principal Duties and Job Responsibilities):

  • Conduct confidential counseling sessions, consultation, walk-ins with immediate support for crisis, and available for on-call emergency rotation after office hours.
  • Provide individuals, couples, and group counseling with evidence-based psychotherapy for students.
  • Maintain compliance based on code of ethics and judicial laws with accurate documentation for EHR (Electronic Health Records).
  • Provide psychoeducation outreach and wellness programming for students.
  • Participate in training programs regarding mental health for staff and faculty.
  • Attend and participate in mandatory weekly team meetings, conferences, and professional development training.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Must have the ability to maintain confidentiality set by the Code of Ethics standards.
  • Must have the ability to work within a team approach counseling setting.
  • Ability to build rapport and trust with the students.
  • Must have the ability to demonstrate empathy and compassion for the students.
  • Knowledge and experience working in higher learning education to address mental health concerns.
  • Must have strong interpersonal skills and communication skills.
  • Must have knowledge to manage and maintain effective documentation for EHR.
  • Ability to problem solve with critical thinking skills to provide effective outreach for the campus community.

Education and Experience Required:

  • Master’s degree in counseling, clinical psychology, or related field.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of clinical experience working in a counseling setting.
  • Knowledge, insight, and creativity to support the needs of a diverse student population.
  • Training and experience in delivering compassionate and being culturally competent.
  • Demonstrates outstanding clinical skills for short-term therapy, emergency crisis intervention, consultation, and outreach developmental programming.
  • Must have experience and strong commitment to work with a diverse student population including ethnicity, race, spirituality, sexual orientation, and international with cultural competency.

Licensure, Certification or Registration Required:

  •  State of Tennessee – Licensed Professional Counselor - MHSP
