Job Overview

Under general direction of the AVP of Airfield Operations, this position is responsible for managing, leading, developing, administering, and the continuous improvement of all aspects of the Airport’s Wildlife Hazard Management Plan (WHMP). The Wildlife Manager contributes a high level of specialized knowledge, experience, and skill in support of the DFW Board goals, initiatives and federal, state and local obligations. The Wildlife Manager ensures compliance with federal, state, and local regulatory requirements, including CFR Part 139.337, applicable Advisory Circulars, permits, contracts, licenses, and training for all staff responsible for implementing the Wildlife Hazard Management Plan (WHMP), and promulgates new standards and policies as needed. The Wildlife Manager partners with internal departments and external organizations to strategize, develop, and oversee programs for the prevention and mitigation of hazardous wildlife and wildlife attractants on and near the airport, while leading and mentoring the Wildlife Inspector team.

What you will be doing:

  • Administers and manages the overall program priorities in all aspects of the Airport’s Wildlife Hazard Management Plan (WHMP) to ensure compliance with the FAA’s requirements.

  • Responsible for leading, mentoring, and developing a team of Wildlife Inspectors. Provides supervision, continuous oversight, and direction to the Wildlife Team in all aspects of implementation of the Wildlife Hazard Management Plan and Wildlife Program activities.

  • Coordinates with other board departments, contractors, and outside sources where relevant, to implement practices and programs for wildlife hazard mitigation and education.

  • Conducts and attends periodic/relevant meetings with internal and external tenants/organization representatives; serves as the airport expert in all matters relating to the Airport’s Wildlife Hazard Management Plan (WHMP), and all pertinent working groups.

  • Evaluates WHMP program needs and communicates adjustments as needed to leadership for implementation.

  • Analyzes program progress and efficacy and applies job specific knowledge, expertise and skills to make revision recommendations for improvement, or course correction, as necessary.

  • Strategizes, designs, and administers contracts as needed for wildlife hazard prevention and mitigation.

  • Ensures the regulations and guidelines established by the FAA are implemented and in compliance for wildlife hazard mitigation.

  • Systematically evaluates and recommends actions to mitigate the risk of wildlife strikes.

  • Prepares special and regularly scheduled reports such as processes, impacts, and

  • recommendations; prepares oral and written briefings for Senior Staff, Industry Stakeholders, Airline Management, and the FAA.

  • Represents the Operations Department at industry meetings and conferences, serving as the airport expertise in all aspects of the Airport’s Wildlife Hazard Management Plan (WHMP) and related matters.

  • Manages expenditures to ensure compliance with approved section budgets.

  • Other related duties as assigned.

What you need:

  • Possess the qualifications of a Qualified Airport Wildlife Biologist.

  • Bachelor’s degree in wildlife management, natural sciences, biology, or a related field.

  • Five (5) years of professional experience as a full-time Qualified Airport Wildlife Biologist responsible for implementing an airport Wildlife Hazard Management Plan.

  • Any equivalent combination of education and/or experience may be substituted for the above.

  • Possession of a valid Class C driver's license.

Special requirements:

  • Must obtain a Security Identification Display Area (SIDA) Airport Identification/Access Badge (badge) in accordance with Department of Homeland Security Transportation Security Administration (TSA) requirements in Chapter 49 of the Code of Federal Regulations Part 1500 et al., and DFW Airport’s Airport Security Program within thirty (30) days from date of employment and maintain qualification for a SIDA badge upon each badge renewal.

  • This is a designated safety sensitive position as defined in DFW Airport’s Drug and Alcohol Administrative Policy and Procedure. Applicants selected for this position will be required to pass a drug test prior to employment and to submit to drug screening on a random basis during the length of their employment in the safety sensitive position.

  • Ability to obtain Department of Homeland Security Customs and Border Protection (CBP) security access clearance within thirty (30) days from date of employment and maintain qualification for CBP security access clearance upon each CBP security access renewal.

  • This is a designated Essential Employee position as defined in DFW Airport’s Categories and Classifications Administrative Policy and Procedure. An essential employee is one whose attendance is required to maintain airport operations during an emergency or inclement weather situation.

What we desire:

  • Master’s Degree in environmental sciences, biology, or related field.

  • Supervisory experience, including experience training and overseeing staff.
