Mental Health Cooperative, Inc. (MHC) was formed in 1993 to serve individuals with severe and persistent mental illness. Since then, we have expanded our services to children and adolescents with severe emotional disorders across Middle and East Tennessee.

Job Title: Team Lead, Behavioral Health Clinician (Enrollment)
Position Summary
The Behavioral Health Clinician Team Lead provides direct clinical services, with an emphasis on prevention, recovery, and consumer-centered care. This role supports individuals and groups in addressing addictions, substance use, family and parenting challenges, suicide risk, stress management, self-esteem, aging, and other mental and emotional health needs.
In addition to therapeutic responsibilities, this position provides administrative, supervisory, and clinical leadership within the Therapy Department. The Team Lead supports therapy staff through mentoring, documentation review, licensure supervision, and serves as a backup in the absence of a Supervisor. The Team Lead is also expected to flex and provide therapy support to consumers as business needs require.
Team Lead Role Expectations – Key Responsibilities
1. Clinical Leadership & Support
- Provide evidence-based individual and group counseling.
- Guide consumers in developing skills to manage mental health challenges.
- Modify treatment based on consumer status and progress.
- Evaluate treatment effectiveness and adjust plans accordingly.
- Provide therapy coverage as needed to meet business and consumer needs.
2. Administrative & Supervisory Support
- Offer up to 2 days/month administrative support to Therapy Supervisors.
- Serve as clinical backup when Supervisors are unavailable.
- Provide licensure supervision and mentor new therapists.
- Review clinical documentation for quality and compliance.
- Ensure therapeutic goals and medical necessity are met.
3. Collaboration & Communication
- Collaborate with families, providers, and care teams for coordinated care.
- Refer consumers to community resources or specialists as needed.
- Actively participate in team meetings and cross-department collaboration.
4. Training & Development
- Train and mentor new therapists.
- Stay current through professional development and field trends.
5. Compliance & Standards
- Maintain HIPAA, OSHA, and Joint Commission documentation standards.
- Model professionalism, integrity, and recovery-oriented care.
- Meet timeliness standards for notes, assessments, and service plans.
REQUIREMENTS:
Essential Skills and Experience:
- Master’s degree in Counseling, Social Work, Psychology, or related field.
- Current clinical license (LCSW, LPC-MHSP, LMFT, or equivalent) required.
- Approved to provide clinical supervision, or eligible to obtain supervision credentials.
- Minimum 3 years of direct clinical experience, including group and individual therapy.
- Demonstrated leadership ability and experience mentoring or supervising staff preferred.
- Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
