Job Summary
- The Emergency Department Educator is responsible for developing, implementing, and evaluating educational programs to support the ongoing professional development of ED staff. This role ensures that nurses, physicians, and other healthcare personnel maintain competency in emergency care practices, comply with regulatory standards, and receive continuous training on best practices, new technologies, and evidence-based care.
Responsibilities
- Develop and deliver an orientation program for ED staff, including nurses, techs, coordinators, and agency staff.
- Conduct ongoing training sessions on emergency protocols, clinical procedures, and new medical equipment.
- Facilitate certification and continuing education programs such as ACLS, PALS, TNCC, ENPC, BLS, MANDT, etc.
- Organize simulation-based training and drills for critical care scenarios in collaboration with SIM Coordinator
- Assess and evaluate the clinical competencies of ED staff through direct observation and skill validation.
- Identify areas for improvement and provide individualized coaching or training as needed.
- Assist in the development and implementation of protocols for trauma, stroke, cardiac, and sepsis care.
- Stay current on best practices and advancements in emergency medicine to ensure the department remains up-to-date.
- Work closely with ED leadership on quality improvement and other hospital department workflows to enhance patient care and operational efficiency.
- Serve as a resource for staff, offering guidance on clinical challenges and evidence-based practices.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and patient safety programs.
Qualifications
- Education: Registered Nurse (RN), Bachelors Degree in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
- Experience: A minimum of 3-5 years of emergency nursing experience is required. Previous experience in nursing education, staff development, or clinical instruction preferred.
- Licensure/Certification: Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of practice. BLS, ACLS, TNCC, ENPC, NIHSS. Certified Emergency Nurse (CEN) certification is a plus.
Mental/Physical Requirements
- Considerable mental concentration required. Lifting up to 35 lbs., turning activities, standing, carrying, pushing, pulling, stooping, crouching, twisting, reaching and nearly constant walking required.
Working Conditions
- Frequent exposure to infectious disease and communicable disease via blood and other bodily fluids. May encounter hostile persons at times.

Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, may require flexible hours, including evenings or weekends based on training needs.
