Job Summary:

Manages the service line activities of the Trauma Program and resources to ensure alignment with the mission, values, and objectives of the department and organization.

Job Responsibilities/Duties:

  • Develops and implements department goals, plans and standards consistent with the clinical, administrative, legal, and ethical requirements and objectives of the organization.

  • Directs and evaluates departmental operations, including patient care delivery, information technologies, service level determination, and complaint management to achieve performance and quality control objectives.

  • Plans and monitors for staffing activities, including hiring, orienting, evaluating, corrective actions, and continuing education initiatives.

  • Prepares, monitors, and evaluates departmental budgets and ensures that the department operates in compliance with allocated funding.

  • Coordinates and directs internal and external audits.

  • Remains current to national trends, issues, and regulations for traumatic injuries, injury prevention, and standards set forth by the American College of Surgeons Committee on Trauma (ACS-COT).

  • Directs community trauma prevention programs, maintains required documentation of ACS-COT, and ensures National Trauma Databank (NTDB) clinical indicators are adhered to.

  • Serves as a leader in state-wide trauma improvement programs and remains active in the Kentucky Trauma Advisory Committee.

  • Develops, implements, and directs quality improvement activities for the trauma service line in accordance with ACS-COT clinical indicators, national benchmarking, and regional emergency medical service providers.

  • Communication – Clearly communicates goals, expectations, and updates the team using active listening and promoting open communication channels.

  • Conflict Resolution - Identifies and addresses conflicts within the team, facilitating constructive dialogue, and finding solutions to disagreements. 

  • Change Management – Involved in implementing organizational change initiatives.  Able to effectively manage resistance, communicate change effectively, and foster a culture of adaptability within their teams.

  • Leadership Development – Actively engages in the Leadership Development Program by enrolling in the program within the first 6 months of employment and completing the program within the first 2 years of employment.

Position Requirements:

Work Experience

  • A minimum of 4 years' relevant experience as determined by the organization

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in nursing required upon hire.

Licensure/Certification/Registration

  • RN - Licensed as a Registered Nurse. Eligible to practice nursing in the State of Kentucky registration required upon hire.
