The instructor will help students build independence by teaching them how to safely and confidently use public transportation, understand schedules and routes, recognize safety cues, and practice real-world travel skills. Responsibilities include planning, providing hands-on instruction in both classroom and community settings, supporting individualized learning needs, ensuring student safety, and collaborating with program staff and families.
Qualifications:
● Experience working with individuals with IDD or similar populations
● Strong communication skills and a supportive teaching approach
● Familiarity with local transportation systems
● Ability to lead community-based instruction and model safe travel practices

Job Description:
We are seeking a knowledgeable, patient, and engaging instructor to teach a Personal Health class for students with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD). The instructor will support students in building independence by teaching essential skills such as hygiene routines, healthy lifestyle habits, nutrition basics, emotional well-being, and safe decision-making. Responsibilities include developing accessible lesson plans, providing individualized and group instruction, creating a supportive learning environment, and collaborating with program staff to meet diverse learning needs.
Key Responsibilities:
● Teach personal health and wellness concepts in an age-appropriate and accessible manner
● Adapt lessons to various learning styles and abilities
● Facilitate discussions and hands-on activities that promote healthy habits
● Monitor student progress and provide positive, constructive feedback

The instructor will support students in lessons on community participation, voting, rights and responsibilities, self-advocacy, digital safety, and day-to-day engagement in life situations.
Key Responsibilities:
● Develop and deliver accessible, engaging lessons on topics such as: Community participation, voting, rights and responsibilities, self-advocacy, digital safety, day-to-day engagement in life situations.
● Create an inclusive, supportive classroom environment that encourages participation and builds student confidence.
● Adapt teaching materials to support diverse learning needs and abilities.
● Use a variety of instructional methods, including visuals, hands-on activities, role-playing, and real-world examples.
● Foster communication, decision-making, and self-advocacy skills.
● Maintain accurate attendance, documentation, and records in accordance with program requirements.
● Ensure a safe, respectful classroom environment
