Job Description Summary

The Facilities Technician III - Courts position is responsible for assigning and completing tasks that ensure the safety, functionality, and professional appearance of court facilities. Serving as a senior-level technician, the role involves troubleshooting complex maintenance issues and providing technical guidance to the maintenance team. The Facilities Technician III - Courts leads general maintenance operations in a dynamic work environment and ensures the cleanliness and upkeep of court buildings and grounds. Responsibilities may include overseeing or performing the assembly, relocation, installation, repair, and maintenance of equipment and furniture. May direct the receipt, issuance, inventory, and storage of supplies, materials, and equipment in a supply room, warehouse, or other designated location.

This is a classified position that reports to Warehouse Supervisor (Juvenile Court), Facilities Manager (Justice Court), and/or Director of Facilities at Superior Court. This position performs duties under general supervision and leads the work of other facilities employees. 

Job Description

Hourly Hiring Range: $21.87 - $23.78

Minimum Qualifications: 

A High School diploma or equivalent G.E.D. and five years of experience related to facilities maintenance, and/or the moving, installing, repairing and caring for equipment, furniture or buildingsSome experience as a lead or demonstrated work history of progressive responsibility is preferredOR any equivalent combination of experience, training and/ or education approved by Human Resources.

Preferred Qualifications:

 Five (5) years facilities maintenance and/or management experience.

Essential Duties & Functions:  

  • Under the guidance of Facilities Services, provide daily direction, training, and support to the Facilities Services team. 

  • Assign, monitor, and inspect the work of Level I and Level II technicians to ensure quality standards and project deadlines are met. 

  • Direct or perform regular inspections of courtrooms, Judges’ chambers, and other court facilities to note deficiencies or malfunctions and make and/or schedule needed repairs. 

  • Direct set up and preparation of meeting and conference rooms to include furniture re-configuration, audio/visual equipment, and general cleaning. 

  • Assist with procurement of contracted services, equipment, office and maintenance supplies. 

  • On occasion (once or twice a year), must work a weekend to oversee special events at the court center. 

  • Perform advanced, complex, and critical maintenance and repairs, complete work orders to troubleshoot and repair courthouse equipment, furniture, furnishings, and other miscellaneous items. Serve as the technical resource for troubleshooting and resolving complex issues. 

  • Suggest and execute preventive maintenance programs. Indicate and address complex plumbing, carpentry, and general building repair issues with management; recommend solutions. 

  • Ensure regularly scheduled maintenance of furniture and equipment to promote efficient usage and longevity. 

  • Perform workplace modifications to install ergonomic engineering devices in a workstation environment on wood and metal furniture and furniture systems. 

  • Respond promptly to emergency maintenance calls, investigate problems, summon appropriate assistance, and follow up with documentation. 

  • Direct or perform maintenance work such as painting, floor repair, drywall repair, and assist County facilities maintenance workers with plumbing and electrical repairs as required. 

  • Relocate desks, filing cabinets, and other furniture throughout the courthouse and satellite offices. 

  • Lift and remove heavy boxes and items from shelves, bins, and carts. Assist with all moves and transport items as required. 

  • Perform regular cleanup of facilities, grounds, and landscape. Assist with the striping and painting required in parking lots to maintain the safety of court staff and patrons. 

  • Ensure the facility remains clean, sanitary, and safe for use by employees and the public. 

  • Utilize various computerized maintenance management systems to create, manage, and track work orders, asset histories, and supply inventory. 

  • Maintain accurate, detailed, and computerized records of all maintenance activities, reports, and procedures. 

  • Take physical inventory of capital assets, keys, and supplies. Issue and track keys; ensure proper documentation. 

  • Assist with the management of requesting maintenance of motor pool vehicles. 


Additional Responsibilities/Duties: 

  • Operate a variety of office equipment such as computers, faxes, photocopiers, and similar. 

  • Operate motor vehicles to make deliveries, pick up, and distribute supplies, materials, and equipment. 

  • Performs other duties as assigned by leadership necessary for the safe operation of the Court. 

  • Reliable and predictable attendance is considered essential for this position along with adherence to a flexible work schedule. The facilities team needs to be consistently available to judges, court and Pima County staff, and vendors. 

  • Perform other related duties and projects assigned. 


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: 

Must have knowledge of: 

  • Supervisory practices, including task delegation, performance monitoring, and team training. 

  • Building systems maintenance (HVAC, plumbing, electrical, carpentry) and preventive maintenance planning. 

  • Workplace safety standards, OSHA regulations, and emergency response procedures. 

  • Ergonomic principles and workplace modification techniques. 

  • Inventory control, procurement, and asset management. 

  • Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) and related software. 

  • Court facility operations and judicial environment requirements. 

Must have skill in: 

  • Leadership, team coordination, and effective communication (verbal and written). 

  • Diagnosing and troubleshooting complex maintenance issues. 

  • Proficient with tools, diagnostic equipment, and maintenance machinery. 

  • CMMS usage for work orders, asset tracking, and inventory. 

  • Time management, organization, and prioritization. 

  • Reading technical manuals, blueprints, and schematics. 

  • Basic computer proficiency (e.g., Microsoft Office, email). 

Must have the ability to: 

  • Supervise, train, and evaluate maintenance staff. 

  • Perform physically demanding tasks and work in varied conditions. 

  • Respond effectively to emergencies and maintain accurate records. 

  • Work independently and collaboratively in a team setting.

  • Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in a court setting. 

  • Operate motor vehicles for deliveries and pickups. 


Licenses and Certificates:  

Must have a valid Arizona Driver License at time of appointment. Post hire, incumbents may be required to take and pass a Defensive Driving course and Van Training course to perform material delivery and pick-up duties. 

Physical/Sensory Items:  

  • Work is primarily performed in an office or courthouse setting, with occasional exposure to outdoor conditions including hot and cold weather. 

  • Duties require frequent standing, walking, bending, stooping, and the ability to lift and move large or bulky objects weighing up to 50 pounds. 

  • Must be able to climb ladders and work at heights of approximately 10 feet or more. 

  • Requires the ability to wear and work in Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for extended periods while performing essential job functions. 

  • Must be able to independently move, manipulate, and transport heavy equipment, furniture, and supplies. 

  • Requires sufficient visual acuity to read blueprints, schematics, maintenance manuals, and computer screens, and to perform detailed inspections and repairs. 

  • Requires adequate hearing ability to detect alarms, equipment malfunctions, and verbal instructions in potentially noisy environments.
