Basic Function and Responsibility:

To monitor and supervise visits and exchanges in a safe and secure setting.

Appointing Authority and Supervision Received: 

The deputy court administrator of family court is the appointing authority.  The visitation monitor receives direct supervision by the program operations coordinator.

Supervision Exercised:

None.

Characteristic and Assigned Duties: (The following duties are representative of the position and do not include all duties which may be performed.)

• Observe and monitor court ordered visits and exchanges.
• Alert law enforcement of potential safety or security issues.
• Provide emotional and physical safety to children and other family members.
• Assist in the preparation and closing of the visit.
• Escort children to and from the visit or exchange, and other areas as necessary.
• Provide information between parents relevant to the child’s visit or exchange.
• Assist in managing the child’s behavior as necessary.
• Intervene and terminate visitation due to parental or child’s non-compliance with safety, and/or program rules.
• Meet with Family Court Resource Services program operations coordinator and/or director to report and discuss program and family issues.
• Attend meetings and trainings as requested.
• Prepare log information and document attendance.
• Report suspected child abuse/neglect to director and appropriate authorities.
• Perform other duties as required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: (This job description does not include specific physical requirements necessary to perform the job, such as, carrying, standing and lifting. Such requirements vary from position to position and may be determined by the appointing authority.)

• Some knowledge of the dynamics of separation, divorce, domestic violence, and child development beneficial.
• Patience and ability to relate positively to youth and families from a variety of cultural, economic and ethnic backgrounds.
• Ability to make sound decisions in accordance with court and program protocols & procedures.
• Ability to establish a neutral role in dealing with children and families.
• Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, and to prepare clear, complete, and logical reports.

Minimum Qualifications: (Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis, provided a high school diploma or GED has been obtained.)

High school diploma or equivalent. Prefer 60 hours of college coursework in a directly related field that may include psychology, social work, counseling, or related fields.  One year of work experience in a care-giving role in relation to children is preferred but not required.
