Job Description

Summary

Responsible for operating heavy equipment and vehicles in the maintenance, overlay and repair of both streets and alleys.
 

Starting Salary: $22.16 - $24.95 (Depending on qualifications and experience)
 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Operate top and sides of the asphalt paving machine.

  • Transport materials between job sites

  • Address citizen concerns on the job site while in occurrence.

  • Operate specialized pieces of equipment to: level lift various types of pavements, patch various types of pavements with hot and cold asphalt, crack seal various types of pavements with a hot tar sealant, grade unimproved alleys.

  • Maintain the functionality, appearance and safety of the work area or facilities in compliance with local, state and federal rules and regulations.

  • Inspect the overall safety of various job projects. Maintain safe and efficient operation of heavy equipment.

  • Ensure all safety equipment is being utilized on a daily basis.

  • Perform pre-trip/post-trip vehicle inspections and complete daily work sheet for equipment operated.

  • Keep work location and vehicle in order. Inspect and maintain assigned equipment. Identify equipment needs for each assigned project.

  • Operate heavy equipment in clearing of streets and/or alleys during inclement weather incidents.

  • Operate/ train on specialized pieces of heavy equipment in the absence of Heavy Equipment Crew Leader.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED)

  • 3 years related experience

Or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.

Preferred Qualifications
Education/Experience:

  • 3+ years of related experience

  • 2+ years experience training on/operating heavy equipment

Licenses and Certifications

  • Valid Texas Class A Commercial Driver’s License with a Tanker Endorsement

  • Valid Class C Texas driver's license

Physical Requirements / Work Environment

The incumbent works in an outside environment; frequent exposure to unpleasant environmental conditions and/or hazards.  Majority of work performed outside or with exposure to risk.
