Job Title: Area Director of Human Resources
Department: Human Resources
Supervision Exercised: Hotel Management Staff
Supervision Received: SVP of Human Resources and General Manager
JOB SUMMARY
The Area Human Resources Director will lead the HR effort on the Property, with primary emphasis on a wide range of basic Human Resource functions, such as recruiting, on-boarding, record-keeping, brand training, benefit administration and employee relations.
JOB DUTIES
- Providing direction and support as needed in areas including staffing, training, compensation, payroll and benefits, management practices, employee relations, performance management, budgets and other employee services.
- HR Director must consider the legal impact of decisions and minimize the potential negative financial risk.
- Recommending, monitoring, maintaining and administering HR practices and procedures. Communicate changes to staff.
- Maintains all legally required employment postings on the Property.
- Maintains personnel records via electronic filing.
- Manages Property payroll and timekeeping systems. Communicates information to the Payroll Department.
- Responds to inquiries from Hotel management, Corporate HR, Payroll, Accounting and HRIL staff.
- Knowledge of FMLA, employee investigation procedures, AAP, OFCCP, and DOL.
- Generates reports on a variety of data as requested.
- Responsible for overall direction, coordination and evaluation of HR department.
- Supports regional management in the annual performance appraisal process to ensure effectiveness and timeliness of process
- Provides on-going coaching to support regional management in closing performance gaps
- Visits each hotel twice per month to speak with and get to know employees and encourage their open and direct communication
- Supports regional management in the resolution of employee issues
- Supports management in the implementation of company wide recognition programs
- Supports management in creating and maintaining a work environment that is aligned with the Vision and Mission Statement
- Coordinates annual employee survey process with GMs. Assists management in planning and implementing improvement ideas that are identified in the survey and approved by home office
- Conducts management exit interviews
- Audits management adherence to company exit interview policy for hourly employees
- Provides SVP HR & Associate Relations, Vice President of Operations and General Managers with quarterly turnover reports and analysis of root causes for hotels that are exceeding turnover percentages as defined by HR
- Manages active claims and works with GMs in providing modified duty to employees who have worker comp claims
- Maintains up to date Safety Guidebook
- Assist Chief Engineers with the Safety meeting
- Supports GMs in the use of, and adherence to, the Safety Guidebook.
- Partners with regional management to ensure compliance with federal, state and local employment laws and regulations.
- Partners with GMs to ensure that hotels are in compliance with federal and state posting requirements.
- Performs quarterly personnel file maintenance audits at each hotel to ensure compliance with company policy and state regulations. Provides Vice President of Operations with status report for hotels not in compliance.
- Provides back up for HRIS data entry when primary data entry source not available
- Assists GMs in coordinating unemployment claims with outside vendor when needed.
- Supports managers in compliance with LOA processing requirements and generates letters to employees that are related to leaves of absences.
- Provides Vice President of Operations with information and reports as requested.
- Maintains professional discretion and confidentiality at all times.
- Watch for safety hazards and report them immediately.
- Investigates complaints of harassment, violations of company policies and charges of discrimination from federal or state enforcement agencies and communicates with Vice President of Operations
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- A Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources Management or a related field is strongly preferred and a minimum of 5 years of work experience in HR positions. Hotel management experience preferred.
- Proven experience managing the legal process connected with HR issues.
- Must have outstanding interpersonal, listening, oral, written and presentation skills. Excellent presentation and platform skills are critical in this position. Must have the ability to speak calmly, professionally and clearly in a variety of settings.
- Ability to handle conflict, articulate their own and other goals and stay focused on a positive outcome.
- Experience in dealing with Federal, State and Local Labor Laws.
- Proficiency in working with ADP’s payroll system is desired; Excellent Microsoft Word, and Excel skills are required.
- Must have the ability to work alone, with minimal supervision in a fast-paced environment.
- Must be highly organized with outstanding time management skills.
