Job Description
Job Duties
- Demonstrates expert critical thinking skills by problem solving patients' situations involving complex problems.
- Champions and applies evidenced based practice related to policies, procedures and education materials.
- Coordinates and implements competencies, skills lab, and mandatory in-service for the unit and/or the organizations.
- Acts as the physician liaison for their specialty area.
- Demonstrates clinical competency.
- Promotes effective working relations and works to enable the department and organization to meet the goals and objectives.
- Follows Mercy's safety guidelines, carries out job-specific safety duties and responsibilities, and promptly reports any unsafe conditions, situations, incidents and injuries.

- Demonstrates a constructive approach during all interactions with staff toward the organization.
- Supports Nurse Manager's decisions and models positive behaviors related to change
- Assists specialty team with call responsibilities in the event of resignation/termination of a team member
- Fosters mature professional relationships with fellow employees in a courteous, friendly manner as measured by management observation and peer input.
- Provides input into performance evaluations for their specific team.
- Completes counseling memos as necessary to assist team members with their performance.
- Performs Surgical Assistant duties as needed.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Sound background in complex safe nursing principles and procedures.
- Demonstrates the ability to provide safe and effective nursing care.
- Demonstrates ability to communicate effectively both orally and written.
Professional Experience
- Minimum two years RN experience within clinical specialty required
- One-year additional clinical experience required.
Education
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing and specialty certification preferred.
Licensure, Certification, Registration
- Currently licensed as Registered Nurse in the state of Iowa or compact state required.
- Current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS), in accordance with the American Heart Association required.
- Iowa Dependent Adult Abuse & Iowa Child Abuse Mandatory Reporter training required. Employee must submit certification of completed training to Human Resources prior to start or transfer date.
