General Summary

  • The Controller directs and coordinates all activities of the accounting department including accounts receivable, accounts payable, preparation of financial statements, budgets, cost reports and general accounting.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Evaluates data processing equipment needs and recommends changes in hardware and software to support operations.
  • Holds responsibility for capital and working budgets, supplies, general policies and compliance with accrediting agencies.
  • Implements strategies necessary to achieve department goals and observe quality outcomes.
  • Continually assess and improve departments’ performance and maintains appropriate quality improvement/control programs.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of health care finance through the budgetary planning process and concurrent productivity, and monitoring.
  • Establishes and monitors effective work teams to achieve goals. To include staff training and coaching, interviewing and hiring, timely completion of performance appraisals and counseling employees in a timely manner with appropriate documentation.
  • Responsible for the oversight of the monthly financial statement close process, including the timely review of general ledger accounts and the performance of variance analysis.
  • Responsible for planning and preparation for annual financial statement audit.
  • Performs timely monthly balance sheet account review.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or business administration.


Work Experience

  • Five years healthcare financial and accounting experience; plus demonstrated supervisory and analytical skills required.


Certification/License

  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) preferred.

Mental/Physical Requirements

  • Considerable mental concentration on variable projects. Standing, walking, sitting, lifting, turning, carrying, pushing, pulling, stooping, crouching, twisting, reaching required.
