The University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science (UMCES), Appalachian Laboratory, is seeking a highly motivated and self-sufficient Facilities Coordinator to support the operation, maintenance, and long-term stewardship of its research campus in Frostburg, MD. This position
plays a critical role in ensuring safe, reliable, and efficient facilities in support of scientists, staff, and students conducting vital environmental research.

Key Responsibilities
The Facilities Coordinator is responsible for the planning, coordination, and hands-on execution of facilities operations, including but not limited to:
● Plan, coordinate, and perform building repairs, general maintenance, and schedule/organize preventive maintenance for all campus facilities and building systems
● Fabricate or modify parts and conduct mechanical and electrical troubleshooting to maintain uninterrupted building operations
● Coordinate and oversee external contractors for renovations, repairs, and construction projects
● Perform routine maintenance and repairs on fleet vehicles and landscaping equipment, including skid steer, four-wheeler, zero-turn mower, and related equipment
● Monitor the building automation system and coordinate upgrades and PM to software with 3rd party contractor
● Maintain a strong safety culture by following all safety practices, using appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), and working safely in varied weather conditions
● Provide on-call and emergency response services, including after hours, weekends, and holidays, for HVAC alarms, fire alarms, and other facility emergencies
● Responsible for landscaping, grounds maintenance, and snow removal operations
● Maintain electronic building repair and maintenance records (Google sheet, excel or database)
● Work closely with the Associate Director to prioritize, schedule, and complete maintenance activities and capital improvement projects
Minimum Qualifications
● Minimum of five (5) years of experience in facilities, operations, maintenance, construction, or a related field
● Working knowledge of building systems and building operations requirements
● Strong oral and written communication skills with the ability to multitask and prioritize effectively
● Proficiency in Microsoft Office and general computer applications
● Ability to lift and transport equipment, perform extended standing and walking, climb, and properly use PPE as required
● Demonstrated ability to take initiative and work independently with minimal supervision
Preferred Qualifications
● Trade certifications and/or advanced skills in building management and operations are strongly preferred and will receive priority consideration
Physical Demands:
● Ability to lift and transport equipment, perform extended standing and walking, climb, and properly use PPE as required
● The ability to lift 50 pounds is required
● The ability to drive a state vehicle is required
Position Details
● Full-time, on-site position with required on-call and emergency availability (after hours, weekends, and holidays)
● Salary range: $60,000 – $90,000 annually, commensurate with experience
