Organization's Summary Statement: The Department of Computer Science undergraduate program is ranked 9th among public universities by U.S. News & World Report. It is the largest major on campus and currently educates almost 4,000 students. The Undergraduate Advising Office in the Department of Computer Science s a student-centered team that facilitates learning and development and aims to build an environment that adapts to meet the diverse needs of our students.
Front Desk Operations Graduate Assistant
The Front Desk Operations Graduate Assistant (GA) will support the Department of Computer Science Undergraduate Advising Office with their daily front desk operations. This position will be responsible for:
● Managing the shared email
● Overseeing the student staff and managing their schedules and calendar
● Assisting with the daily business operations
● Initial point of contact for escalated student and parent concerns
● Troubleshooting and resolving issues
● Accepting ADS exams and managing their dissemination
● Collecting, compiling, and organizing data
● Automating and maintenance of front desk workflow and systems
● Canvas ELMS maintenance and monitoring
● Other duties as assigned
Position terms: This is a 9.5 month appointment for the spring semester only with 20 hours per week required. Potential for hourly summer work and renewal for fall semester. The 20-hour per week work schedule will be 4 hours/day Monday – Friday between the hours of 8:30 AM - 4:30 PM. Occasional evening and weekend work for events will be required.
Benefits: Tuition remission (10 credits in the spring) and eligible for the employee's health benefit programs.
Preferences:
Must be able to both work independently and as a member of interdisciplinary teams.
Must have proficient analytical, writing, verbal, organizational, research and computer skills and an ability to work well with students, campus partners, parents, and external constituencies.
Attention to detail, initiative, ability to work independently, and reliability are essential.
Ideal candidates will have the ability to exercise authority and good judgment in the absence of or in conjunction with the professional staff for the Undergraduate Advising Office in a variety of situations, demonstrating exceptional leadership characteristics and interpersonal skills.
Working with undergraduate students, particularly those in STEM and/or technical fields.
Students with a background or professional experience working in an office environment and are organized, analytical, and detail-oriented and capable of performing under a variety of requirements and deadlines.
Priority consideration for students in the iSchool or Information Systems.

Minimum Qualifications:
Must be a registered graduate student in good standing enrolled in a degree program at the University of Maryland and must be making satisfactory progress toward the degree.
