General Summary

  • The AI Informatics Specialist is responsible for operationalizing and carrying out the organization’s strategic vision for Artificial Intelligence (AI) integration within the clinical and business environment. Reporting through the IT department, this role focuses on the tactical execution of AI initiatives, ensuring that leadership’s strategic goals are translated into functional workflows. This specialist acts as the primary facilitator for AI adoption, bridging the gap between high-level strategy and frontline clinical and business application to ensure technology is utilized effectively, safely, and consistently across the health system. The Specialist serves as a clinical champion for AI literacy, developing educational resources and maintaining a continuous feedback loop with IT analysts to ensure all technical adjustments are driven by frontline needs and adhere to the standards set by the AI Governance Committee.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist with identifying AI features and carrying out the established AI roadmap specifically designed to streamline workflows and enhance the patient-provider encounter.
  • Support the AI Governance Committee by facilitating meetings, gathering requests, completing risk assessments, tracking adoption and ROI, etc. Ensure that all AI adoption activities adhere to the standards and governance protocols set by the AI Governance Committee and IT leadership.
  • Apply clinical informatics principles to troubleshoot adoption barriers, providing at-the-elbow support to end users to ensure AI tools are used correctly and to their full potential.
  • Act as a champion to improve AI literacy across the organization. Develop and execute the educational plan for AI literacy by developing user guides, conducting training sessions, and ensuring staff are competent in using new AI enhancements.
  • Track and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) and utilization metrics, providing data-driven feedback to leadership regarding the success of adoption efforts and to measure the success and impact of AI initiatives.
  • Utilize clinical informatics methodologies to evaluate AI solutions for clinical validity and safety, ensuring that all tools support high-quality patient care and align with hospital clinical standards.
  • Collaborate with the IT team, especially application analysts to ensure AI tools are seamlessly integrated into the end user’s experience and serving as the primary point of contact for end users to provide feedback on AI performance, ensuring that technical adjustments are driven by frontline staff needs.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BSN), Health Informatics, or a related clinical field is required. Nursing degree is highly preferred.


Work Experience

  • Minimum of 3–5 years of experience in a clinical setting (Hospital, Clinic) combined with experience in Clinical Informatics or Healthcare IT.
  • Advanced proficiency in the Epic EHR system. Strong understanding of clinical data structures and decision-support logic.
  • Ability to speak both technical IT and clinical practice to build trust with medical staff while maintaining technical project rigor.


Certification/License

  • LPN or RN licensure is highly preferred.
  • Professional certification in Clinical Informatics (CPHIMS, RN-BC) is preferred.
  • Epic proficiency/certification required within 12 months.

Mental/Physical Requirements

  • Ability to prioritize and execute multiple clinical implementation projects concurrently.
  • Requires frequent movement across the hospital campus to meet with clinicians and end users in their environment.
  • Maintains a high level of responsiveness; may require occasional evening or weekend hours to support clinical staff during 24/7 "Go-Live" periods.
  • Professional on-camera presence for virtual meetings.


Working Conditions

  • Primarily on-site position performing work in a fast-paced clinical and office environment.
  • Requires the ability to maintain focus in high-activity clinical areas with ambient noise.
  • Work is performed in a climate-controlled clinical setting with potential exposure to infectious diseases.
