Summary

This position supports Mercy's philosophy of patient-centered care by providing dynamic leadership, vision, strategic direction and operational oversight for the DeWolf Innovation Center for Aging and Dementia. The Senior Director will develop, execute, promote and advocate for aging, caregiving and dementia programs and services for the Cedar Rapids community and beyond. Further, they will be responsible for leading the DeWolf Innovation Center for Aging and Dementia to continued success while maintaining its mission, culture and values. They will oversee all Center operations, strategic planning, and growth initiatives ensuring the Center’s long-term sustainability. The Senior Director will be expected to manage the leadership transition, preserve the Center’s legacy, and position it for future success. Additionally, they will serve as a custodian of the Center’s values and its long-term vision, while also adapting to new opportunities, and challenges.

• Supervises Operations Manager; Family Caregivers Center Manager; Family Caregivers Center Education & Outreach Facilitator; Family Caregivers Center Caregiver Engagement Facilitator, and Community Connections Facilitator

Job Duties

Leadership & Strategy

  • Lead the Center with a clear vision, focusing on growth and innovation

  • Develop and execute strategic plans that align with the Center’s mission and
    objectives

  • Foster a culture of collaboration, transparency, and accountability

Business Development & Growth

  • Identify new business opportunities, partnerships, and markets to ensure
    sustainable growth

  • Oversee business operations and major initiatives

Financial Oversight

  • Monitor financials, ensuring strong revenue growth

  • Work with the Operations Manager to maintain the budget and strategic financial
    planning

Succession & Transition Management

  • Ensure a smooth leadership transition, managing internal and
    external stakeholder relations

  • Educate and develop future leadership talent within the Center

  • Maintain the Center’s vision and legacy, while adapting to meet new challenges

Stakeholder Management & Communication                              

  • Act as the primary spokesperson for the Center, representing its interests to
    external stakeholders, including caregivers, people living with chronic conditions.
    and older adults

  • Maintain and build strong relationships with key stakeholders

  • Ensure effective internal communication, engaging with employees at all levels to
    maintain morale and alignment with Center goals

Cultural Stewardship

  • Preserve the Center’s culture and values while evolving them to adapt to changes

  • Ensure the Center’s workforce remains motivated, committed and aligned with its mission and purpose

Innovation & Adaptability

  • Lead the Center through periods of change and innovation, staying ahead of
    trends in the fields of aging and dementia

  • Embrace technological advancements, ensuring the Center stays “cutting edge”
    and relevant

  • Champion continuous improvement within all components of the Center and
    drive innovation to meet changing needs

Governance & Compliance

  • Ensure the Center operates ethically, following legal and Center specific guidelines

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Proven leadership experience, preferably in a related position

  • Strong background in strategic planning and business development

  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to influence and
    engage key stakeholders

  • Track record of scaling organizations and driving growth in a dynamic environment

  •  High emotional intelligence with an ability to inspire and lead diverse teams

  • Experience with navigating leadership transitions and succession planning

  • Familiarity with modern business technologies and innovation practices

  • Curiosity and willingness to take risks

  • Strong alignment with the Center’s mission and values

  • Passion, as the highest priority, for making life better for caregivers, those living
    with chronic conditions (especially dementia), and older adults

  • Ability to manage and balance short-term results with long-term vision

  • Capacity for resilience and problem solving during challenging situations and times

  • Passionate about preserving the Center’s legacy while starting new courses for future success

Professional Experience

  • 5 years of healthcare management or related leadership experience

  • Prior lived experience applicable to the job (professionally and personally)

Education

  • Master’s degree (preferred) in an applicable field

  • Ability to articulate a vision for the Center’s future
