Job Description Summary

Postdoctoral Fellow to work on freshwater evolution and conservation research projects in the Aquatic Biodiversity and Conservation Laboratory (ABC Lab) at Miami University. The ABC Lab, directed by Dr. David Berg, is working on projects in four main areas: 1) population genomics of freshwater mussels and snails, 2) systematics and evolution of freshwater crustaceans, 3) responses of freshwater invertebrates to climate change, and 4) conservation genetics of imperiled freshwater invertebrates. This is a 75% time, benefits-eligible position.

Job Description

The Postdoctoral Fellow will develop and execute research in one or more of the focus areas. This may include: designing studies, conducting experiments, collecting field and laboratory data, analyzing and interpretating such data, preparing manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals, summarizing research findings and implications; collaborating with team members on joint publications; collaborating with other researchers, graduate students, and external partners involved in the research program; attending and contributing to regular lab meetings; and providing mentorship and guidance to undergraduates, graduate students, and research assistants involved in the projects.

Minimum Qualifications:

Required: Doctoral degree in biology, ecology, evolution, conservation, or a closely related field earned by the date of appointment.

Consideration may be given to a candidate with a strong background and expertise in molecular genetics/genomics and/or systematics; proficiency in statistical analysis and data interpretation; experience with the analysis of geographic information; excellent written and verbal communication skills, demonstrated through peer-reviewed publications and scientific presentations; the ability to convey complex scientific concepts to diverse audiences as evidenced by work with conservation agencies and organizations; and proven ability to work effectively in a collaborative research environment. Experience may be gained through graduate program research and coursework.

Duration of Appointment: 1 year.
