Job Description Summary & Additional Information

The College Park Scholars in the Arts, a living and learning program of the Office of Undergraduate Studies and co-sponsored by the College of Arts and Humanities, is seeking a highly motivated, reliable, and creative individual to fill a 20 hr./week, 9.5-month graduate assistantship beginning in the Fall 2026 semester, including a competitive stipend plus eligibility for benefits and tuition remission. Pending job performance and budgetary considerations, this position could be extended into subsequent semesters and include part-time summer compensation. Appointment to this position will commence in August 2026.

This position includes providing instructional support for two, team-taught, weekly colloquia, including classroom and grading assistance.  Colloquia are 1-credit courses for first and second-year students that combine theoretical analysis of the arts and hands-on experimentation with a wide variety of art forms, including (but not limited to) dance, theatre, visual art, music, and design. Beyond instructional duties, primary administrative responsibilities include the support of program undergraduate teaching assistants and direct oversight of the program’s social media team and public-facing online platforms. Additional administrative tasks may include advising freshman and sophomore research projects in an active living and learning academic environment, outreach to campus and local arts organizations, and assisting with the planning and implementation of various programmatic activities, including local and regional field trips, Arts Fest student exhibition, annual Scholars Academic Showcase, and guest artist-related events. Other administrative duties may be assigned. The graduate assistant works closely with the Director and Associate Director in supporting opportunities for students to experience the depth of cultural diversity and educational resources available at the University and beyond.

The ideal candidate will possess: leadership skills to support student learning, demonstrable experience with social media platforms (Instagram and Planoly) and related multimedia applications (e.g., Canva, Panopto, Adobe Rush or Premiere Pro, Mailchimp), and the capacity to exercise professionalism and effective time management skills while balancing the rigor of graduate-level academic study. College Park Scholars has a unique focus on interdisciplinary learning, so candidates with connections to a variety of creative fields may consider applying.

The qualified candidate must be enrolled in a degree program as a full-time graduate student at the University of Maryland, in excellent academic standing, and possess superior written and oral communication skills. Candidates must be available on Monday or Tuesday evenings during the Fall semester between 4:00 and 7:00 pm. Occasional weekend hours to support program events may be required within the 20 hours per week.  Candidates should possess the following characteristics: ability to work independently, adaptable, reliable, exceptional problem-solving skills, ability to manage multiple responsibilities and meet deadlines within a fast-paced environment, and collaborate effectively with a diverse array of students, faculty, and staff.

Preferences:

Highly preferred candidates will be enrolled in a degree program in the College of Education or the College of Arts and Humanities and possess two or more years of work experience in education, and/or an arts-based organization. Strongest consideration will be given to candidates who possess clear evidence of a significant body of critical and creative work in the arts and humanities, as well as exemplary college-level teaching experience.
