Summary

This position supports Mercy's philosophy of patient centered care by providing patient care services under the direction and supervision of a Physical Therapist or Physical Therapist Assistant. This position includes a wide range of duties for the Rehabilitation Department to support and assist with patient care. This position may also be used for Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy students who will obtain the necessary licensure within 60 days to become a licensed OT or PT.

Job Description

Job Duties

  • Assists the Physical Therapist/Physical Therapist Assistant as needed with patient care
  • Schedules patients in EPIC and assisting with active management of patient schedules
  • Checks patients into therapy to include proper paperwork for initial sessions and repeat sessions - outpatient only
  • Communicates with physicians, includes mailing and receiving notes, faxes
  • Checking and placement of the confidential recycling boxes
  • Makes copies as requested by staff, as needed for documentation, patient education and home exercise program
  • Distributes department mail each day
  • Orders and tracks supplies, stocks items, inventory
  • Inventories durable medical equipment and supplies, and communicates with vendors
  • Plaza - UVB/PUVA cleans and calibrates – outpatient only
  • Cleans and organizes department gyms to include linens and equipment
  • Sends notes requiring physician certification
  • Provides restorative care as planned by the PT/PTA - inpatient only
  • Calls facilities for current patient information
  • Greets and directs customers, patients, physicians, community leaders, general public, staff and visitors. Uses proper greetings and direction of phone calls and messages.
  • Follows Mercy's safety guidelines, carries out job-specific safety duties and responsibilities, and promptly reports any unsafe conditions, situations, incidents and injuries.

  • Must be able to form good interpersonal relationships, organizational skills, and possess good written and verbal communication skills.

  • No professional experience required.

Education

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required

Licensure, Certification, Registration

  • Basic Life Support certification in accordance with the American Heart Association required.
