Cardiovascular SurgeryOverview of Position:
The surgical advanced practice provider (APP) will assist the responsible cardiothoracic surgeon in the global management of patient care the operative and peri-operative settings. The surgical APP role will include providing diagnostic, therapeutic, surgical and preventative care under the supervision of a surgeon in Cardiothoracic Surgery.RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Conducts thorough medical histories, performs complete physical examinations (where indicated), initiates appropriate lab, radiology tests
or other specialized tests required for evaluation of illness, and scrutinizes lab data on new and former clinic patients and hospital admissions to establish a record of the patient's current health status and to develop a working diagnosis and treatment plan
2. Perform all manner of patient care in the office setting, as determined by the supervising surgeon. Specifically, but not exclusively, management of post-operative surgery patients, non-complex surgery consults.
3. First assistant in surgery – performs full first assist duties, including ensuring all needed equipment and supplies are present. Keep your surgical skills up-to-date with CME.
4. Perform in-hospital consultations. Facilitates appropriate length of stay, discharge planning, and compliance with regulatory standards for inpatient management.
5. Perform the assigned call duties when applicable
6. Performs and interprets, standard laboratory, radiologic, cardio diagnostic and other routine diagnostic procedures used to identify pathophysiologic processes as privileged by Genesis Credentialing Board
7. Perform minor invasive procedures, central lines, intubations, chest tubes, etc.
8. Post-op – Writes orders in the recovery room, talks with family, visits patients, performs post-op procedures, and more.
9. Discharge planning – Dictates discharge summaries, writes prescriptions, explains discharge instructions, confirms follow-up appointments, and more.
10. Prescribe and monitor medications as allowed by prescriptive authority through applicable state Board of Nursing/Medicine and Genesis Credentialing Board.
11. Ensures continuity of care by serving as a liaison between patient and other members of the multi-disciplinary care team or with other specialty areas as necessary
QUALIFICATIONS
1. PA: EDUCATION: Graduate of an A.R.C.-approved Physician Assistant Program. Master's degree in Physician Assistant Studies and/or applicable state license through the State Medical Board for a certificate.
2. Acute Care, surgical, robotic, critical care experience Preferred.
3. Required Certifications: BLS and ACLS to be obtained within 6 months of hire.
4. Current DEA registration (for Interventional Radiology only)
