We are seeking a seasoned and results-oriented Senior Project Manager (PMP) to lead the execution of sponsored contract research projects within a fast-paced R&D environment. This sponsor-facing role provides strategic and operational project management support to Study Directors, Scientific Leads, and cross-functional laboratory teams. The ideal candidate will combine scientific acumen with technical project management expertise to drive efficiency, enhance forecasting accuracy, and support revenue recognition.

Key Accountabilities:

Sponsor Project management

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for sponsors, managing communications and operational coordination.
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive project plans outlining milestones, deliverables, and timelines.
  • Oversee logistical planning and procurement of materials for sponsor-driven projects.
  • Monitor study progress and operational performance, ensuring timely issue escalation and resolution.
  • Manage multiple concurrent projects across diverse programs, maximizing stakeholder value.
  • Facilitate stakeholder engagement and decision-making to maintain project momentum.
  • Provide ongoing sponsor support and issue resolution throughout the project lifecycle.

Sponsor Communication

  • Engage with sponsors during the study on key milestones, change orders, shipments and deliverables
  • Establish best practices for meeting facilitation and cross-functional collaboration.
  • Engage with various sponsor stakeholders for “pulse-checking” during and after a study is done.

Internal Communications and Process Improvement

  • Support internal communications, scheduling, and resource allocation as needed.
  • Promote continuous improvement across all aspects of project delivery.
  • Apply Lean Six Sigma principles to enhance project management processes.
  • Contribute to the implementation of new technologies and workflows for improved data integration and reporting.

Financial management and Revenue Recognition

  • Support internal communications, scheduling, and resource allocation as needed.
  • Lead revenue recognition and revenue forecasting efforts using data-driven insights.
  • Ensure budget adherence and alignment with contractual commitments.
  • Analyses actual expenditure, explains variances, and advises on options in use of available budget.

Other

  • Potential to supervise and mentor individuals in consideration of their career opportunities and contribution to the organization.
  • Carryout any other reasonable duties as requested.

Skills:

  • Minimum 5 years of project management experience.
  • Proven expertise in PMP methodologies.
  • Strong scientific understanding of research and laboratory operations.
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills with keen attention to detail.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Skilled in issue resolution within cross-functional teams.
  • Analytical mindset focused on operational outcomes.
  • Experience in revenue tracking, recognition, and forecasting.
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Familiarity with project management and reporting tools.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
  • A flexible attitude with respect to work assignments and new learning.
  • Ability to manage multiple and varied tasks with enthusiasm and prioritize workload with attention to detail.
  • A self-starter and able to work under own initiative.

Knowledge and Experience:

  • Proven experience managing and leading mentoring colleagues.
  • Proven line management and leadership management
  • Experience using tools to communicate progress to Stakeholders.
  • Experience of working in and knowledge of the life sciences sector

  • Solid Professional experience in the same or very similar role.
  • Proven working experience of project management methodologies (such as Prince2, Agile, Lean Six Sigma).

Education:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in a scientific discipline with 7+ years of industry experience, or Master’s degree with 5+ years of experience.
  • Certifications: PMP® certification required; MBA is a plus.
  • English: Fluent

 This role is based in the Perceptive office/lab located in Needham, MA.  The annual base salary range for this role is $94,376-$175,271.  This range represents the anticipated initial annual salary and may vary depending on several factors including the candidate’s experience and skills and may be subject to market rate adjustment.
