Overview of Position:

The Clinical Pharmacy Services Technician will work closely with patients, pharmacists, and clinical staff to deliver a full continuum of medication support by utilizing various tools and applications.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES
1.    As a member of the clinic teams, work seamlessly alongside clinicians and clinical pharmacists to serve patients both face-to-face and over the phone.
2.    Provide exceptional care to all patients, interact with patients in a professional manner and support appropriate workflows for the provided service.
3.    Be the patient’s advocate, ensuring the patient receives the best service possible.
4.    Ensure that patients remain adherent with medication regimens, medication adherence check-ups, secures refills and prior authorizations for prescriptions.
5.    Recognizes and respects diversity of patients and their beliefs and treats them accordingly.
6.    Answer, resolve and triage all inquiries.
7.    Process transactions through the pharmacy software system for both primary and secondary insurances.
8.    Perform refill tracking and reminder calls under the supervision of a pharmacist.
9.    Resolve insurance related issues, including prior authorizations, and assist patients with various forms of financial assistance that may be available.
10.    Ensure appropriate documentation is completed in all required systems/tracking mechanisms.
11.    Manage, organize, and update relevant data using database and spreadsheet applications.
12.    Uses and refers to appropriate references when needed.
13.    Apply observations and make recommendations to improve operational processes, to increase productivity, quality, and customer satisfaction.
14.    Identify trends, resolve problems, recommend improvements, implement change when needed.
15.    Takes direction from pharmacist in charge and leadership and provides constructive criticism when appropriate.
16.    Takes ownership of problems and assists other employees with problem solving.
17.    Reports to pharmacist, manager, or director any problems or potential problems with employees or patients.
18.    Actively participate in process improvement initiatives.
19.    Act as a value-added business partner to stakeholders throughout the organization.
20.    Participate in educational opportunities; read professional publications; maintain networks; and participate in professional organizations.

Addendum 1 (Clinic Based)
In addition to the essential duties listed on the clinical pharmacy services technician job description, a clinical pharmacy service technician that is expected to work directly within a hospital department or work directly with a hospital department will have the following additional duties:

1.    Educate prospective pharmacy patients on how the health system serves patients and improves their overall care.
2.    Coordinate outpatient retail and specialty prescription medication needs.
3.    Grow the patient population for the system owned pharmacies.
4.    Provide guidance and training to other clinical pharmacy services technicians to ensure smooth operations and superior patient care and satisfaction.
5.    Monitor to ensure prior authorizations and patient assistance are being completed properly and timely.
6.    Monitor the staff from the various clinics to ensure satisfaction with pharmacy services and staff.
7.    Identify medications requiring specialty storage and/or handling such as hazardous medications and/or refrigerated/frozen medications to ensure proper procedures are followed.
8.    Identify supplies necessary for select medications such as sharps containers, needles/syringes, pen needles, alcohol swabs, Band-Aids.
9.    Schedule refills, deliveries, and pickups in the most efficient and cost-effective manner.
10.    Participate in educational meetings provided by drug manufacturers.

Addendum 2 (Administrative)
In addition to the essential duties listed on the clinical pharmacy services technician job description, a clinical pharmacy service technician that is expected to work directly with the clinical pharmacy manager within the administrative office will have the following additional duties:

1.    Schedule patients for pharmacy-offered clinical services, explain the benefit of these services to optimize patients’ health.
2.    Perform in-depth medication histories, identify potential medication errors and complete administrative duties related to medication reconciliation.
3.    Contact patients and healthcare professionals to determine acceptance of pharmacist-provided recommendations, refer to clinical pharmacist staff as appropriate.
4.    Provide guidance and training to the other pharmacy technicians to ensure smooth operations and superior patient care and satisfaction.
5.    Assist with scheduled vaccination clinics, help manage patient flow, assure informed consent and pre-screening requirements are completed by patients prior to vaccination.
6.    Prepares for appointments and documents in all appropriate clinical platforms prior to the scheduled service. 
7.    Acquire and utilize data for quality assurance and performance metrics.
8.    Coordinates care with a multi-disciplinary team, communicates directly with patients and caregivers in the course of performing technical functions within the assigned work area to ensure timely and accurate procurement of prescriptions and documentation within the electronic medical record when required.
9.    Supports medication synchronization and adherence packaging services by coordinating with patients and retail pharmacy staff.

QUALIFICATIONS
1.High school graduate or equivalent required. Must be nationally certified pharmacy technician and registered with the State of Ohio   Board of Pharmacy as a certified pharmacy technician.  
2.Three or more years of required pharmacy technician experience. 
3.Sound interpersonal, decision making and problem-solving skills. Good listening, verbal and written communication skills. Ability to work under pressure.  
4.Ability to determine dosages using basic pharmaceutical calculations. Must be able to interpret prescriptions. 
  5. Must have computer skills and be able to accurately process prescriptions through the pharmacy’s software system. 


WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

2.    Must regularly lift or move up to 10 pounds, occasionally lift or move up to 25 pounds.
3.    Vision abilities require up-close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
4.    Individual bends, reaches, pushes and pulls file drawers to file records and reports.
5.    Must be able to stand for long periods of time.
6.    Answers phone calls, uses computer and other business machines extensively which requires the ability to apply finger dexterity.
7.    May be required to periodically rotate shifts and regular days off.  All system employees must be willing to work all shifts, extra hours, holidays and emergency shifts as required.
