Summary
The Staff Accountant reports directly to the Assistant Controller and is responsible for financial reporting, general accounting activity related to the month-end closing process, variance analysis, annual audit, and related duties as assigned.
Job Description
- Prepare and post accurate journal entries in a timely manner for assigned accounts/functions, including accrual estimates
- Timely analyze accounts and activity within to ensure that all material entries are booked timely and correctly, including financing and related interest calculations
- Responsible for completing required tasks to fulfill the month end close by the 5th business day
- Generate monthly reports for monthly executive deliverables
- Review and ensure consistency of data between data originating from source/subsidiary systems not integrated with general ledger software (e.g. customer billing and fleet management)
- Effectively communicate and interact with operations to ensure timely information and data flow in support of a timely close
- Complete account reconciliations in a timely manner following the monthly close and make related adjusting entries as needed
- Look for process improvement opportunities and make recommendations to management
- Maintain process policies and procedures to prevent inaccuracies
- Work with the finance team to answer questions related to journal entries
- Assist repair shops with parts inventory analysis
- Mentor, train and develop staff accountants
- Provide supporting schedules and information needed for the annual financial audit
- Performs other related duties, as assigned
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or any other related field
- Experience in fast-paced muti site, manufacturing, distribution, logistics industries
- 4+ years’ experience in accounting
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel
- Strong mathematical and analytical skills
- Strong communication skills
- Proven ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously
- Excellent accounting software user and administration skills
- Accuracy and attention to detail
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working in public accounting
