Overview of Position:

Assists in providing a broad range of services characteristic of a comprehensive diagnostic and/or primary and secondary prevention program. Services include but are not limited to utilization of a functional capacity assessment, exercise training, dietary screening, risk factor management, health education, psychosocial support, and emergency services. Assists with case management of patients’ multidisciplinary treatment plan. Acts as the premier resource in providing exercise recommendations for patients and exercise-related staff education.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES
1.    Serves as a resource person for other staff throughout the hospital and community regarding cardiac health and rehabilitation.
2.    Understands of the role of in-patient cardiac rehabilitation as it relates to other patient care disciplines throughout the patient’s length of stay and refers appropriately to outpatient cardiac health and rehabilitation.
3.    Conducts comprehensive client needs assessment.
4.    Evaluates initial exercise tolerance and readiness for progression to more intense activity.
5.    Assists the patient in setting and achieving goals based upon the health assessment, national standards of practice, behavior change theories, and risk of future complications.
6.    Shows patient participation in lifestyle changes by summarizing patient outcomes in a clear, concise, meaningful manner and communicating the changes to the patient and physician.
7.    Demonstrates knowledge of the clinical application of physical activity in the treatment of a wide variety of disease states.
8.    Demonstrates understanding of basic pathophysiology of cardiovascular disease and its risk factors and indications for primary and/or secondary prevention programming.
9.    Demonstrates the knowledge and cognitive skills for understanding the clinical applications of stress testing.
10.    Makes recommendations for continued improvement by reassessing all biopsychosocial information with the patient and making appropriate suggestions for the non-rehabilitation setting.
11.    Trains RN’s on basic exercise principles so exercise guidance is available in the absence of the EP Therapist.
12.    Maintains expertise in various exercise modalities and makes recommendations for new equipment and upgrades to existing equipment including telemetry system and AED.

QUALIFICATIONS
1.    Bachelors Degree in an allied health field or the equivalent required.  
2.    Attention to detail.
3.    Ability to provide patient care in a warm and friendly manner.

3.    Promotes Patient and Employee Safety
