$78,769.60 - $116,392.33

Position Overview

SUMMARY (Basic Purpose of the Job)

Provides leadership and manages all aspects of the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) field operational activities. Oversees Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Department operations, providing incident command and on-the-scene emergency medical care, monitoring contractual activities, and coordinating EMS activities. Utilizes current concepts in healthcare, economics, emergency medicine, and emergency preparedness. Understands and enhances delivery models, policy, quality improvement, patient satisfaction, patient safety and risk management to promote outcomes based care. Demonstrates proficiency of project management, financial, strategic, and information management.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education:Associate's degree or five years of EMS experience. Bachelor's degree in related field preferred. RN with MICN endorsement accepted in lieu of Paramedic.

Experience:Five years of management experience in area of specialty preferred. Experience as EMS Paramedic or Registered Nurse with MICN endorsement.

Other Credentials:AHA ACLS-Adv Cardiac Life Supp,AHA BLS - Healthcare Provider,AHA PALS,Drivers License,Hazmat Awareness,ICS-100,ICS-200,NIMS,NIMS-700,NJ MICP or MICN

Knowledge and Skills:Proven leadership skills, experienced in developing and enhancing operational activities, process flow, and clinical expertise in Emergency Services as well as business and financial management. Reasoning ability and critical thinking skills. Global view and systems approach to problem solving. Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Special Training:Demonstrated expertise in partnership building, customer service, clinical education and new program development.

Mental, Behavioral and Emotional Abilities:Ability to respond quickly, effectively and professionally in emergencies and stressful situations. Ability to safely drive an emergency medical vehicle in adverse conditions and according to motor vehicle laws. Ability to prepare reports and to make effective public presentations. Ability to use sound judgment and determine best options and decisions for handling emergency matters.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Establishes priorities for department activities; delegates assignments to and placement of personnel; ensures proper allocation of personnel and other resources; disseminates information and special orders. Organizes workflow and prepares schedules; reviews payroll; approves time sheets; assists with departmental training and quality assurance efforts.
  • Develops, interprets, and/or implements standard operating and testing procedures, policies and general orders; formulates and executes action plan to correct deficiencies. Stays abreast of changes and trends in the area of emergency care and operations. Exercises discretion and judgement when Identifying best practices and determines how to apply them to the systems regional activities.
  • Evaluates and determines proficiency level of EMS supervisory personnel; identifies areas requiring improvement; establishes and reviews employee and departmental goals and objectives. Instructs and directs subordinates regarding proper procedures and protocols; reviews all work for compliance with standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Assists with establishing priorities for anticipated departmental requirements for each fiscal year; prepares and submits annual budget information; recommends budget revisions as appropriate; administers approved budget and monitors operational expenditures for fiscal compliance. Develops capital budget requests in collaboration with the Medical Director and the Divisional Director Emergency Medical Services.
  • Schedules departmental staff meetings; attends seminars, workshops, and in-service training sessions as appropriate; serves on special panels, boards, and/or committees and maintains professional affiliations.
  • Communicates effectively and builds trusting collaborative relationships with all stake holders to achieve organizational goals and strategic plans. Represents Emergency Medical Services at various committees as required.
  • Develops and monitors standard business processes to ensure consistency and efficiency across appropriate groups such as teams, departments and staffs. Identifies issues or process improvements and recommends same. Meets monthly and quarterly revenue and profitability goals.
  • Oversees Emergency Medical Services (EMS) operations of the Special Care Transport Unit, Mobile Intensive Care Unit, Mobile Stroke Unit, and Basic Life Support 911 and transport units.
  • Articulates and takes action to support DNV-GL's goals's. Collaboratively designs safe clinical systems, processes, policies and procedures. Assures professional staff receive risk reduction and safety education and training to assure safe patient outcomes.
  • Plans and develops communications activities related to 911 services and inter-facility patient transports. Develops policies and procedures, attends meeting related to communications issues both within and outside of the hospital system.
  • Provides periodic reports of staffing, workflow, volume metrics, and other key performance metrics to document business operations. Analyzes reports to ensure business operations are efficient and cost effective. Identifies issues and recommends alternative courses of actions. Interprets key performance metrics, identifies trends, and exploits opportunities for operating income growth through enhancements in marketing creativity and promotions.
  • Demonstrates professionalism through personal and professional accountability, ethics, promoting evidence based practice, advocacy and professional commitment. Manages self-development plan and professional goals as evidenced by participation in a professional organization, continuing education and self-development activities.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the EMS Director and willingly adapts to changing department and system demands. Maintains status as an active ALS provider.
