Education

  • High school diploma or GED

Experience / Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a healthcare setting, particularly in pediatrics or audiology.
  • Nationally certified through NCHAM for newborn hearing screening within first year of employment.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience with data entry and administrative tasks.
  • Ability to work with sensitive and confidential information.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Proficiency with relevant medical equipment and software.
  • Basic life support (BLS) certification.
  • Excellent manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination.
  • Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Comfortable working with newborns and their families.
  • Capacity to follow established protocols and guidelines.

Position Summary

The newborn hearing screening tech administers hearing tests to infants using specialized equipment to identify potential hearing loss early.

  • Conduct hearing screenings on newborns using specialized equipment.
  • Accurately document and record screening results.
  • Explain the screening process and results to parents and guardians.
  • Maintain and calibrate hearing screening equipment.
  • Provide follow-up instructions and referrals as needed.
  • Collaborate with healthcare providers to discuss findings and coordinate follow-up care.
  • Ensure that all screenings are conducted in accordance with hospital policies and guidelines.
  • Manage the scheduling and administrative aspects of the screening process.
  • Provide support and reassurance to parents and guardians during the screening process.
  • Stay updated with the latest developments and best practices in newborn hearing screening.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements

  • Physically able to sit, stand, stoop, and walk for long periods of time. The team member will need to frequently assist lifting patients and equipment. Must be able to work in a stressful environment, work independently, and be capable of critical thinking, making sound decisions, detail oriented, alert, and self-motivated. Ability to push/pull up to 20 lbs., carry and lift up to 20 lbs.

Threshold Requirements

  • These threshold requirements are required and completed yearly basis.
    • Annual Joint Commission mandatory education requirements, in-service and health requirements including attendance at new employee orientation.
    • TB/PPD Surveillance Program
    • Maintenance of required professional licensing and/or certification(s)
