JOB PURPOSE:
This position will assist with community engagement event planning and management such as outreach activities, networking events, and community board meetings. The Community Program Assistant is responsible for providing support to Howard University Research Centers in Minority Institutions (RCMI) Program – Community Engagement Core (CEC) promoting awareness of health disparities, assisting in data collection for RCMI- CEC projects, and building and maintaining relationships with community-based equity advocates.
SUPERVISORY AUTHORITY:
Responsible for orienting and training others and assigning and reviewing their work. May also be responsible for acting in a lead or senior capacity over other positions performing essentially the same work or related technical tasks and reporting to a higher level on a formal basis
NATURE AND SCOPE:
Internal contacts include administrators, faculty, staff and students both within the department and University-wide. External contacts include government agencies, sponsor representatives, vendors, visitors, officials and the general public.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:
COMMUNITY OUTREACH AND ENGAGEMENT:
· Maintains a regular presence in the community through attendance at community events and partnering with local organizations to facilitate access to health-related information, resources, and services.
· Assists with planning and implementing activities to engage community organizations in research activities.
· Collects and organizes data for program evaluation.
· Attends meetings with community partners to increase awareness of local activities an promote collaborations.
· Provides periodic public presentations.
· Supports research investigators and community partners in conducting community-engaged research.
PROGRAM SUPPORT:
· Provides support for hosting meetings, events, and other programmatic activities.
· Manages event marketing and logistics.
· Works with external vendors and internal business partners.
· Provides support for onsite and virtual events.
· Collects and organizes data to assess program impact
· Must be able to work independently during periods of less supervision and work effectively in a busy environment.
· Perform other related duties as assigned.
CORE COMPETENCIES:
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
A bachelor’s degree is required for this position. Exceptions may be granted with otherwise qualified candidates. Two years of experience working with the public in a health or social service-related field.
