Hiring Salary: $22.74 - $28.43/hour

Position Information

The City of Aurora is seeking a highly skilled theater technician. This position is responsible for the theater’s lighting, scenic installation, sound, operation, and upkeep.

As part of the City of Aurora Library and Cultural Services Division, the Aurora Fox Arts Center is a historic landmark located at 9900 East Colfax in the Aurora Cultural Arts District, and the city's performing arts center. The Aurora Fox utilizes two performance spaces, a 245 seat auditorium and a 73 seat Studio Theatre.

PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Performing or assisting in carpentry and building projects

  • Operating specialized and heavy equipment

  • Operating sound and or lighting equipment

  • Performing routine repair and maintenance to equipment, infrastructure, facilities and/or other related items

  • Troubleshooting systems

  • Resolving complaints

  • Identifying potential areas of operational concerns

  • Monitoring regulatory compliance

  • Performs other duties as assigned

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & WORKING CONDITIONS

An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that demonstrates required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered.

Education:

 

  • High School Diploma or GED

 

Experience:

 

  • 2 years of directly related experience

 

Knowledge:

Knowledge of methods, techniques, tools and equipment used in performing facilities construction and maintenance functions 

Skills: 

  • Skill in the use of tools, specialized equipment common to commercial facilities and construction maintenance 

  • Carpenter Shop stationary tool safety and operations use. 

Abilities: 

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees 

  • Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing 

  • Train and instruct other employees 

  • Keep and maintain accurate records 

  • Organize and schedule resources, materials and equipment to accomplish tasks 

  • Lift 50 pounds repetitively 

  • Supportive team player with a positive attitude and ability to adapt to change 

  • Strong commitment to safety 

WORKING CONDITIONS

Essential Personnel:

When a local announcement of emergency or disaster is declared by the City, all City of Aurora employees may be required to work as essential personnel.

Physical Demands:

  • Moderate to heavy physical work requiring ability to lift a maximum of 100pounds

  • Frequently lifts and carries objects weighing up to 50 pounds

  • Considerable walking and standing

  • Frequent performance of activities requiring full range of body movement including bending, stooping, pushing, pulling, grasping, and climbing (on tall ladders)

  • Hand/eye and hand/foot coordination for operation of tools, equipment, and motor vehicles to pick up materials

  • Vision to read reports, manuals, set plans, and monitor/observe lighting and technical instruments

  • Hearing/listening for troubleshooting and warning signals

  • Speech communication to provide technical information and instructions, and to communicate with employees, contractors, clients, and citizens

Work Environment:

  • Works primarily in theatre/stage environment with exposure to noise, dust, and fumes

Equipment Used:

  • Tools and technical equipment common to stage production work.
