Position Overview

SUMMARY (Basic Purpose of the Job)

Designs master work schedule and plans daily work schedules for personnel in order to run an efficient operation within budget. Works within established budget and ensures quality performance improvements in order for the hospital to remain financially sound while delivering the best possible products and services to customers. Ensures that the Food and Nutrition Department is properly opened in the morning and properly closed in the evening. Supervises catering and retail operations according to department policies and procedures.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education: High school diploma or equivalency. Able to read, write, and communicate in English.

Experience: One or more years previous experience.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Assists management with interviewing and hiring prospective candidates. Evaluates personnel to ensure correct and adequate coverage on each shift. Monitors subordinate employees and ensures schedules and work duties are completed.
  • Trains new employees on job duties and procedures to ensure employee is meeting the expectations of position.
  • Establishes daily, weekly, and monthly cleaning schedules to ensure employee is keeping area sanitary to reduce the possibility of food borne illnesses and supervises observation of this process.
  • Initiates disciplinary actions with employees as necessary. Follows guidelines established by the hospital and departmental policy to ensure employees are not breaking work rules.
  • Controls expenses and generates revenues projected for budget.
  • Ensures the safe operation, cleaning, and maintenance of equipment and sends employees to training classes as required.
  • Inspects work completed by employees to ensure standard of quality including proper storage, proper temperatures, proper labeling, and dating of foods. Ensures compliance with all JCAHO, federal, state, and county regulatory agencies regarding food service establishments. Participates in all quality assurance tasks as they relate to food quality and services.
  • Performs accurately the opening checklist functions to ensure that the facility is ready for the daily operation.
  • Registers and records the necessary equipment temperatures before, during, and at the end of shifts.
  • Inspects all equipment on a daily basis to ensure proper functioning. Reports all defective equipment and facility failed inspections to management and maintenance staff for resolution.
  • Properly secures all Food and Nutrition Department supplies, equipment, and cash per policy guidelines at the end of each shift. Inspects all exits and entrances to department to ensure all doors are securely locked at the end of daily operations.
  • Ensures that the catering and retail areas are adequately staffed, stocked, and operating efficiently.
  • Performs all retail cash functions as necessary to include operating a register, running reports, and reconciling register activity with the cashiers. Completes cash reconciliation accurately and consistently per department policy.
