Student AdvisingPosition Summary
Under general direction of the Director of Advising, advise students regarding academic and career concerns, articulation and other related services. Assist with academic planning, student success initiatives, and implementation projects.Duties & Responsibilities
Serve as academic advising lead for projects that involve implementation, training, and hyper care of any academic advising software or Student Information Systems; student success initiatives; and student services projects.
Update academic degree/certificate plan requirements on the Student Information System when changes are implemented to academic plans.
Provide initial advisement to students and/or potential students on college programs and services including course selection and class scheduling.
Assist students in assessing academic skills and interpret placement testing. Contact students who have been determined to be academically at risk and design a program to improve academic success.
Provide students with information regarding other institutions and transfer requirements.
Provide academic advising for degree-seeking students ensuring that students are fully enrolled and meet class and graduation requirements.
Participate and assist in the development and implementation of a variety of student development programs and college recruiting activities to attract and maintain students/potential students including special populations.
Provide comprehensive counseling services to students including but not limited to assistance with planning and problem solving in academic and educational matters, short-term crisis counseling, and provide referral information for further mental health counseling.
Work with the Academic & Accessibility Advisor/Counselor to monitor and assess the needs of the campus’s overall mental health and provide services as needed.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Requires frequent and continuous sitting/moving about, continuous use of fine motor skills, and pushing and pulling of up to 20 lbs.
SCHEDULE DETAILS:
Must be available to work 40 hrs. per week with normal work hours from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. Occasional evening and weekend hours may be required.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include but are not limited to:
Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Master’s degree in counseling, social work, or a related field is required. Must obtain NM Counseling licensure or NM Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) licensure within six (6) months from date of hire.
Strong proficiency in computer applications, especially with regard to academic planning, student success initiatives, and implementation projects.
Ability to deal effectively with a variety of individuals and to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience in career and community relations development, student services, or related field or the equivalent year for year combination of education and experience is desired.
Experience administering Title IV federal student aid. Knowledge of BANNER or Workday.
