Medical Assistant (MA) – Limited X‑Ray

Job Summary

Inova‑GoHealth Urgent Care is seeking a Medical Assistant (MA) – Limited X‑Ray to support clinical and administrative operations in a fast‑paced urgent care environment. This role works collaboratively with Medical Providers and clinical team members to deliver high‑quality, patient‑centered care while performing limited x‑ray services in compliance with Virginia state regulations.

Essential Functions

Limited X‑Ray Services

  • Perform limited x‑ray procedures as needed and permitted under Virginia law
  • Position patients correctly and ensure appropriate safety and shielding protocols
  • Apply radiologic procedures to assist in diagnosis and treatment of patients of all ages
  • Communicate x‑ray results to Medical Providers in a timely manner
  • Perform daily equipment controls, calibration, and quality assurance documentation
  • Troubleshoot equipment issues and submit repair or service requests as needed

Patient Registration & Front Desk Support

  • Register patients and obtain required forms, insurance information, and documentation
  • Verify insurance eligibility and process co‑payments
  • Schedule appointments and coordinate provider referrals
  • Answer patient questions and provide updates on care status
  • Manage incoming phone calls and correspondence

Patient Preparation & Rooming

  • Prepare patients for examination by gathering medical history and visit information
  • Measure and record vital signs (blood pressure, temperature, weight, etc.)
  • Perform point‑of‑care testing (e.g., flu, strep, urinalysis, ECG, HCG) as appropriate
  • Communicate patient flow and clinical needs to providers and team members

Administrative & Clinical Support

  • Maintain accurate medical records and scan documentation into the EHR
  • Conduct patient courtesy call‑backs and follow‑ups
  • Perform opening and closing procedures, including cash reconciliation and securing the center
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of exam rooms, front desk, and reception areas

Inventory & Supplies

  • Stock exam rooms and clinical areas with necessary supplies
  • Monitor inventory levels and complete supply order requests
  • Check expiration dates and ensure proper storage of medical supplies

Other Duties

  • Perform other duties as assigned by leadership

Required Qualifications

Education

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (required)
  • Graduate of a Medical Assisting program (preferred)

Experience

  • Medical Assistant experience (preferred)
  • Experience performing x‑rays (preferred)

Certifications & Licensure

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) required at time of hire
    (American Red Cross or American Heart Association)

Medical Assistant Certification
One of the following is required:

  • CCMA – Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (NHA)
  • CMA – Certified Medical Assistant (AAMA)
  • RMA – Registered Medical Assistant (AMT or AAH)
  • NCMA – National Certified Medical Assistant (NCCT)
  • NRCMA – Nationally Registered Certified Medical Assistant (NAHP)

Accepted at time of hire:

  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing (LPN or RN)
  • EMT – Emergency Medical Technician (NREMT)
  • CNA – Certified Nursing Assistant

Virginia‑Specific X‑Ray Requirements

To perform x‑ray services in Virginia, candidates must meet one of the following:

  • Limited Radiologic Technologist License (Virginia)
    OR
  • Radiologist Assistant (RA) License, which requires:
    • Graduation from an educational program accredited by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT)
    • Successful completion of the ARRT certification examination, resulting in the Registered Radiologist Assistant (R.R.A.) credential

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of medical office and urgent care workflows
  • Strong time management and multitasking abilities
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
  • Service‑oriented mindset and social awareness
  • Proficiency in MS Office and electronic medical record systems
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast‑paced clinical environment
