This is a casual/PRN position. Casual/PRN employees work on an ‘as needed’ basis to meet the needs of the business. Workdays/hours will often vary from week to week. Must be able to pick up at least 24 hours per month as a requirement of the job.

Provides basic emergency medical care and basic life support (BLS) for patients in emergency and non-emergency situations.

Responsibilities:

Essential Functions

Respond to emergency calls and provide BLS care.

Assist in tasks as delegated by RN or provider.

Administer CPR, oxygen, and basic wound care.

Effectively communicate with all members of the healthcare team.

Job Requirements

Education

  • Associate’s degree in Paramedicine required.

  • OR

  • Graduate of an accredited Paramedic training program required.

  • Participate in mandatory in-services and continuing education programs as mandated by policies and procedures/external agencies and as directed by supervisor.

Experience

  • Minimum 1 year of Paramedic experience is preferred.

  • EMS-Paramedic providing service in a hospital or by serving as a volunteer Emergency Medical Service preferred.

License/Certification

  • Current valid Paramedic license required.

  • Current American Heart Association or American Red Cross Basic Life Support (BLS) required.

  • Current American Heart Association Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification required.

  • Current American Heart Association Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification required within 6 months of hire.

  • Current National Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification required within 6 months of hire.

Skills/Knowledge and Abilities

  • Assist ED staff to obtain vitals/orthostatic vitals, obtain EKGs, and phlebotomy.

  • Actively seek tasks, work well within a team, and be able to effectively communicate to assure that all patient care is done in an accurate and timely manner.

  • Able to start and remove peripheral IVs and IOs as directed.

  • Transport monitored patients to different units within the hospital.
